Fishing buddies, I'll be out of circulation for a while. Wife's getting hip replacement surgery.

mdeadman54 and Scottm7961 thanks for your posts. I'll have to try your bucket method, as my grandson needs to learn accuracy. I generally stick to East Bay Regional Parks to fish as I get an annual senior parking pass and I'm getting too old to dive solo to my favorite the Sierra trout streams.

I volunteer for "CAST for Kids" and have been to Los Vaqueros taking the disabled kids fishing. Kind of far to solo drive for me, I do take precautions napping if needed.

Tight lines for 2022.

Thank you bobber22 & captjim. Too cold and wet for this ol'man and his grandchildren 4 & 8 yrs old at this time. Teaching the 4 yr old how to cast - SOMEWHERE! - taught the 8 yr old around that age, still catches trees, shrubs, clothes, self, other lines etc. a long learning curve - haha. Please keep posting and I hope to report our successes in EBRP.

I put each individual rod with reel in a tote bag (used fold up lawn chair bag) wrap the draw string around any exposed rod parts and line and have an elastic hair tie at the end of the draw string that I put over a guide. Use an old snow ski bag to hold my two/three rods (and more for my grand kid(s) if they fish with me). Extra work, but keeps line(s) from getting tangled up as I do not cut off the snap swivel and reel in all the line onto the reel and keeps the two/three rod parts together.

Send a letter to the Post Master General if the local/regional office denies your claim asking for a written reply from each. If sending a letter to the Post Master General does not work, his boss is the President of the United States and send all copies of the letters to that office. As a federal employee, I found out the hard way that my union sold me out, the regional/district office did not care. After the office of the President of the United States got involved, I obtained the settlement I was seeking.

Check out the East Bay Regional Parks for their annual parking pass (good for 4 or more lakes)
and "Angler Edge" fish planting schedule (trout & catfish) - fishing reports. Youtube has a couple of people who post their Eastbay fishing trips and gives your their fishing methods and bait/lures used. Calif Dept of Fish and Game also post their fish planting schedules for Contra Costa and Alameda counties

Basically, it's toast. I would hate to have anyone see me using anything like that. You could put another tip-top on it if you could find one the right size.

a lot depends upon how you want to present your fishing image: are you one who needs: "the latest and greatest" if yes buy a new rod.
Salvageable:
If you fish "bait and wait" and your priority is catching and eating then one can find a drill bit that fits the inside of the broken rod pieces (Youtube video on rod repair using a drill bit). You will loose some action, but will have the same length rod. Also a spare or child's rod, my grandson already snapped two rods, I fixed both of them and his younger brother uses them "bait and wait" fishing.

I live in the PNW and have / will be fishing for stocked and wild trout in streams and still water, surf fishing for surf perch, and inshore salt fishing.

I’m trying to spend more and buy once as I accumulate gear and was wondering if, when buying pliers, I should consider split-ring ones.

The little bit of fishing that I’ve done thus far hasn’t necessitated working with split rings.

Thoughts?
