Fishing North Texas lakes and Lake Fork have been producing some lunkers early in the season. The fish keep getting bigger and bigger! Here is a compilation of some of the ones we caught just in the past 3 weeks. How is the fishing in your areas?

Went out of town on a business trip and missed three days that I could’ve been fishing late at night. I returned yesterday early enough where I thought I would try a late afternoon. Couldn’t get a tap in two hours so I decided to go that night. All I can say is I’m glad I did because I caught some monsters. The largest was over 7+ lbs. The second largest was 6+ pounds. And the last one was almost 5 pounds. Enjoy gentlemen

Yessir ! Good fish !

It is just fishing. Fisher men are know for exaggerating. When people enjoy fishing and communicating with others it is a better world. The only thing that even comes close to irritating me is when someone backs up to the ramp and has not prepared their boat for a quick launch.but I am retired so I just tell myself, what the hell, I am not in a hurry

I understand what you are saying ,luckily I have never run into a situation like that at the ramps where I fish ( mainly rayburn and Toledo bend ) … but I’ve been around lakes, boats, bass fishing a very long time. And can tell you nobody knows the difference between a 7# bass or an 8# bass until you can see it and get it out of the water , and most likely weigh it . When someone tells me they “ missed an 8# “ , it insults my intelligence . If he / she said “ I missed a big one” , ok I can believe that. And know as we get older we should be more tolerant of stupidity , but with me, it ain’t happening. I avoid it as much as I can . And even though I’m retired ,and can basically go to the lake whenever I feel like it, I try to avoid going Friday - Monday as much as possible.

We caught them on Flukes from here: https://www.tacklecoop.com/products/5-split-tail-fluke
and keitech paddle tail minnows from Academy.
Fork is full, I think it may be 1-3 inches low but not 6' low like last year. The fishing has been phenomenal lately.

Here is one of my friend fishing Fork today. it was cold and rainy and he still did really good.

Wow. He did good . Thanks for the information of the flukes. Yeah I did pretty good a few days back on Keitech impact fats / owner flashy swimmers in rayburn . Rayburn was 4ft low at the time and still dropping ( dam repair). Everything should be repaired and rayburn should be full around June.

I grew up in CT, but never thought I was raised by low income parents during a time when most everyone treated each other with respect. We didn't eat a lot of fast food because it was considered a treat, not a food group. We drank Kool-Aid made from water that came from our kitchen sink with real sugar. We ate bologna sandwiches, or even tuna (which was in a can not a pouch), PB&J & grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, pot pies, but mostly homemade meals consisting of mainly meat, potatoes, vegetable, bread & butter, and homemade dessert.
We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped neighbors with chores to be able to earn our own money. We went outside a lot to play games, ride bikes, red rover, dodge ball, run with siblings, and friends & played hide and seek. We drank tap water from the water hose outside... bottled water was unheard of. If we had a coke -it was in a glass bottle ... and we took the empties back to the store for a 5 cent deposit.
We watched TV shows like Bonanza, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, Little House On The Prairie, and I Love Lucy. After school, we came home, and did homework, and chores before going outside or having friends over. We would ride our bikes for hours. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and what time we'd be back.
You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them, and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW, and you did not question it, and you had better know it!!!
When the sun was starting to set you had better be home. In school we said the Pledge of Allegiance, we stood for the National Anthem, and listened to our teachers.
We watched what we said around our elders because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up we would get our behinds whooped, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or TV, and if you cursed and got caught you had a bar of soap stuck in your mouth, and had to stand in the corner. “Please, Thank you, yes please no thank you yes ma'am no ma'am yes sir, and no sir were part of our daily vocabulary!
You grew up to respect the Nation, the flag, and the President, NO MATTER who it was or what party they were from.
Re-post if you're thankful for your childhood, and will never forget where you came from & the time you came from! ❤

This was the best night of fishing of our lives. I don't think we've ever caught so many big fish in one night. Wait till you see this...it was so crazy.
Here is what we used to catch all these:

Also know the spawn in Texas has already started so now is the time to catch a fish of a life time. Its 60-70's down here right now, its the easiest time to find and catch the big ones! Don't think, Don't wait, just come!
The spawn ends around May/Juneish..

If you are thinking of coming to Lake Fork, feel free to send me a message here or on Instagram (https://instagram.com/cruzfishing) (I check that more) I can connect you with some amazing guides that can put you on some big fish. I personally don't guide but I am looking to do some collaborations with other people that fish with Youtube channels or instagrams so hit me up. I'll take you out, you film it and make some cool videos for us.

Yessir! Looked like a great time ! Did you and the vet catch the night bass on soft fluke - type baits or live bait ? How’s the water level at fork ?

I can't be the only one... as soon as I make a noise like I miss a fish....Grumpy Ol Vet's lure makes a bee-line for the spot I just missed..and he often catches it!

Anyone else have a partner like this?

Me and my son do that , usually when top water fishing . If I swing and miss a bass on a plopper or other topwater bait , Andy throws a weightless senko in the same area. Many times will get bit.I’ve done the same to him. Or sometimes if I miss, I will throw a senko myself. The idea is to catch the fish, right ? I think I can honestly say this technique is successful over 50% of the time.

Jer is correct, they will float. I learned that working them under a popping cork on the flats. So using a Texas or shorter leader Carolina rigs may get you what you need over grass beds. I’ll do the short slip rig down here too. I especially like their durability

Another option is the Bass Assasin 7” split tail shad. But I don’t blame you for wanting to try the Elaztech. They have a fairly large profile so you may want to try them on a 1/8 oz jig head rather than weightless. See which works best. As stated above the 5” flukes work great weightless. It’s more or less a soft jerk bait. We use them a lot over and through grass and bushes on Kerr Lake in NC.

Thanks. Appreciate the suggestion.

I have never tried the 7" elastech, but I have used the 4 and 5 inch fluke style in a unique and very successful way. I cast them along kelp beds in very calm water. I just retrieve them with split shot to keep them waking just under the surface. A fairly fast and occasional darting retrieve has produced a lot of silver salmon and a blast to fish. I use a 2000 spinning reel with 20 pound braid and 12 pound floro leader. Never pass up a jumper or boiling fish.
As far as comparison, I have used the elaztech paddle tail and the Keitech 3.3" Swing Impact Swimbait in a comparison test on smallmouth. The Keitech had much more action but had to be replaced often due to its softness. I do not know if that is a fair comparison for the 7 inch you are talking about. Let us now how the 7 inch bait works out.

Chuck, I prefer the z man DieZel baits that have the slit in them to add Pro Cure scents. Can't say I have seen the 7" you mention but the 4" and 5" plastics hold up really well with using them after multiple catches.

Nice fishes, Chuck.
Prior trip to Rayburn I got a few nice ones on the underspin Keitech off the edge of the hydrilla wall. Wasn't much of that in the areas we hit this time and we were yakking in the wind, so we largely chased the brush bucks and got a few bonus females.

Thanks.
