My catching is mostly by chance, I’m not good to learn from, I’m trying to learn from everyone else,
And I don’t think those guides are going to tell you much if you call and ask, they charge like $400 per person for about 4 hours on the water, where you’ll most likely catch a few fish and maybe or maybe not learn something you can use later

Your inquiries are highly technical, the subject matter being in a different direction than I would go. I plan to stay with my current rods/reels/tackle, but am interested in best times of day, depth to fish and lures/bait they will hit. I am NOT getting up before dawn and spending 12 hours on the water. I don't have a canopy on my boat.
I've been working a lot lately and think that a good day working is better than a bad day fishing.
Like you, I fish close to the bank...and be in 40-50 feet of water doing so.

There seems to be an information blackout concerning Carters Lake. It baffles me that so little info is shared.
I've posted on the subject recently, talk to guides and other anglers, and read whatever I come across. I've had trouble getting my bait and lures down so deep without tangling up. I am using oar-powered craft like you and have a depth finder on it. That is an indispensible piece of equipment on any reservoir. I am marking fish 30-40 ft.down and put something in front of them, but they rarely will hit. One time when they did hit a jigging spoon, I hooked four and all four got loose. That has never happened to me before. Maybe the stretch of the 4# mono was the cause.
40 feet is shallow on this lake. There are a lot of signals below 40 ft.
I live closest to Ridgeway and go over there for swimming. It should be better fishing than further down lake but that ramp is just too steep, and I have never launched there. It is hard enough to get down and back up for my One Hour swimming workout. JG in Gilmer County

OF COURSE it has braggin rights - and it is an exceptional catch.
One to be proud of.
However - It will not challenge the bluegill record because it is not a bluegill.

I usually fish once a week so spend a long time, I try to find some shade, I fish the upper lake and the dam, and sometimes go to Rocky Mountain in Rome.
Lived in chatsworth for 20+ years

Do you catch much in the afternoon ?
I am seeking to add to my angling knowledge but also am willing to share what I know. I study fishing, as I'm sure you do. I've had outdoor articles published in a newspaper and a magazine. Are you acquainted with any of the Chatsworth fishing guides ? A couple of the other guides got pretty testy when it was apparent that I was not calling to book a trip right away (LOL). I just want to know more than I do now, and knowledge is scarce on a lake like Carters.
I have done well on the lower lake, but the pumping/generation policy seems to be changing all the time.
Most of my fishing/catching in the last two years has been in TN. JG

Wow ! Twelve hours on the water, in this heat ??
I was in SE TN lately and went out three times, 6 hours max for me !
The route back and forth takes me through Chatsworth.
Have you lived there a long time ?
I am on the Gilmer County side of ft mtn
I have fished the Carters upper and lower lakes because they are the closest to me.
It makes me grateful that I have a TN fishing license ! JG

Have you run into any other people in our neighborhood on this site ?
I presume you are fishing in early morning.
How deep are you fishing, and...
Do you ever go out in afternoons ? Curious, JG

Hello Neighbor - I went through Chatsworth, yesterday, on my way home.
The closest lake to me is Carters, and rather than getting highly technical, I simply use light monofilament, jigs which I make myself, and what ever it takes to get fish from down there to up here.
On carters, I either catch a monster...or nothing.
Have you been out fishing, lately ? JG

P.S. To Wrightk: Do you ever fish up at Indian Boundary Lake, or below Chilhowee dam ?
(OR know anybody who does)

Hello Wrightk2 and thanks for the reply. I see there is some fog on the water...might be a cold tributary coming in.
A lotta rain might mess up the fishing, for awhile. JG

Hey Banjo - thanx 4 the reply. R U a picker ?
SO where do you take out, if on a Float ?
It's a long way to two rivers park.
I did good above the dam, yesterday. Now it's time to clean fish. "GTRPLR" JG

Can Anyone provide any fishing reports/info/advice on panfish or spotted bass ? I know it is HOT but I can stand the heat if I am catching something. I don't have a motorized boat so plan on fishing within 1/4 mile of The Hwy 64 ramps or King's Slough. Suggestions about Depth of Water, Time of Day and productive cover (if any) are appreciated. There is shoreline wood so wonder if that is productive at this time of year. I'd be happy to catch a few bluegill, redear, perch, catfish, or bass of any size. Thank You !!
