Anyone know how the fishing is in lake Isabella Ca??

fished lake Isabella on the 18th caught 9 trout took 2 trolling near the dam great day till i got back to my pickup note on it that i had to pay a fee of 12 dollars for parking my pickup at the boat ramp as i fished. I was not in a camp site just parked at the ramp. the signs call for a fee for day use at camp site. I pay a fee of 60 dollars to the county for the year to fish the lake from my boat and a tax to the county of $360.00 per year because i own a new boat now they want a parking fee in the dirt?

Just wanted to share what I found fishing-wise on a quick trip to the Bishop area. I give more details below but the short version is this: Super full lakes make for greatly reduced access to fishable shoreline. Get there early to claim a decent spot but shore fishing not doing too well. The only bait I got any action on was worms (baby night crawlers). I didn't even try the streams out of the lakes even though that is what I do best at because the streams are still super fast and almost unfishable.

I got up there last Friday afternoon and first checked out North Lake, one of the three lakes about 20 miles West of Bishop up Highway 168. The other two main lakes are Sabrina, South Lake, and then the little Inlet 2.

North Lake had been closed due to the snow until a few days ago so I thought the fishing might be good not being overfished. No one from shore was having any luck and I didn't either. A couple small ones were being caught with flies from a few in floater tubes.

Later that evening I tried the Inlet 2 and caught 2 with a bobber letting a baby night crawler sink beneath the bobber. Again, the tube floaters with flies were doing the best in the middle of the lake but quite a few fishing from the sore were getting some but all looked small.

The next morning I tried South Lake (my first time there) and found the lake was so full there was very little shoreline to get access to. I had no luck but saw a couple people getting 1 or 2 and some were pretty nice sized.

I also checked out Lake Sabrina that had been at super low water levels even 2 months ago when I was there. Sabrina and South lakes are owned and managed by So. Cal. Edison and they were keeping Sabrina very low. Great to see it 100% full again but this left limited fishable shoreline. I could not find a place to fish there due to the crowes but you could see some nice sized fish from the dam.

I decided to drive a bit and tried Rock Creek Lake (at the Tom's Place exit) north of Bishop. Caught one and missed one but it seemed like very few were being caught.

Sunday morning I tried Convict Lake. Got there early enough to find a nice spot but didn't get a bite and this from a lake I usually do pretty well at. No one around me saw any action at all. Again, the level of the lake made for less fishable shoreline.

Hope this helps. Tight lines, everyone.

Hello from Bakersfield. I'm an old disabled vet that loves to catfish at Isabella lake. Also enjoy centerfire rifle shooting sports. Love catching and talking about catfishing. My fishing gear consist of 2- 10 ft rods with Swedish Abbu Garcia 6000 casting reels loaded with 20 lb. Mono. Normally use 3/0 -5/0 circle hooks rigged Carolina style. Normally use 3 to 4 Oz. No-roll weights. Would enjoy hearing from you folks as to what you use. Fried blue cat nuggets are "where it's at" at my place.

if you go in like i said you should be able to park at the shore line. I would use worms and you should get some best of luck

Hi, I am visiting from Hawaii and wish to do some fishing in the Lake Isabella/Kern county river area and I would like to know the "secret handshake" to fishing at Lake Isabella? I have no desire to catch a bunch of fish but to have my wife and I to have some "fun" fishing in the Lake Isabella and Kern River area. Our goal is to catch a few fish for our
barbecue if possible?
Lmk what you advise?
Thanks,
Aloha,

Pete Basabe

boat or shore? best bet is at the main dam drive in at the ranger station and fish the south side area you will see the boat docks
