Hello stagers! Spring has arrived in Northern Michigan.. was a beautiful day yesterday without hurricane force winds we have had of late.. chores be damned!
Prepped my rods and picked a lake and went fishing!
Took me a few hrs to locate them, but finally found them! Tried a few known locations and caught a dink on a crankbait.. went exploring and found a bunch of Smallies that wanted to play…caught them all on a Zoom superfluke, cream and chartreuse color.. I missed several, could not get a hook in them.. so I downsized hook and game on. Ended up with 9-10 caught and released, biggest just a tad over 4lbs…nothing like smallies!

Great fishing Greg. They do bite well on rainy days sometime. One of the best days bass fishing I ever had was on a rainy day of steady rain coming out of the south on West Point Lake in GA/AL. It was a warm tolerable rain and it seemed to turn the bite on big time. I fished for several hours losing count of the number I caught, releasing 95% of them (I kept a few for dinner). I finally got cold not having brought any rain gear, left biting fish and went home. I heard on the local news that it rained 8 inches that day. It even washed out half of the road I live on at a small creek crossing just down the road.
So, based on that experience, I love fishing on rainy days, as long as it is not cold and there are no thunderstorms and lightning.

Had a nice little shakedown run at Beseck today. It wasn't quite as warm as yesterday and the
8-10 breeze was gusting to 15+, but I got out anyway. No luck with topwater or a swimbait, so it was Dinger time. I missed the first bite, probably early hookset. Caught a 2lb Largemouth skunkbuster, and then settled in. Caught 2 more cookie cutter males, and decided to shift gears. Pulled out the medium light, and the ultralight rods and went Crappie hunting. The blowdown trees were on fire. Caught 10 up to 1 pound or so. The wind was picking up so I picked up the worm rod one more time, and caught the big fish of the day, a 2lb 12oz chubby female. After that I called it a day.
Definitely a successful shakedown and first trip.
