Just my opinion, the best rod is the one you can afford!

I like ultra light fishing rods and reels for most fish but for cats, bass and walleye if I ever get going with them, it's casting all the way. That is simply a personal preference, I love casting rods. There are spinning rod and reels that will do the same as the casting. Why ultra light for some? I have never been able to cast a lure under 1/4oz with a casting rod. I also expect larger fish with the casting rods. Catch a decent size fish, say a couple pounds on a ultra light with 2 or 4 lb line and you will have your hands full. Same fish on a casting rod and reel, lightest line I use it 6lb and only on one rod and reel them 10 lb on most the other's and it's about like pulling in a fish with a crane! If I had to give up one, I'd give up spinning, I just really like casting reels and mostly round ones.

As a kid I grew up on Long Island for 11 yrs. Lake where we lived and fished bluegills a lot. Then a few times a year we'd go out in long Island Sound for flounder and when they were in snappers. No idea what it cost to go out on a charter boat in the sound anymore but we always caught a lot of fish out there. Not so good fishing from shore except for snapper's when they were in. That's something you might want to watch for there in Jersey, snappers. Out on the island we'd go to little saltwater slew's and piers here and there and did well on them. Little light spinning rod and don't recall what we used for bait. I think you might have a bunch of water like that along the Jersey coast. Talk to guy's in fishing shops and bait shop's over on the coast for info. Was a ton of fun when I was a kid!

If theline were laying on top of the bail, it would unspool like crazy wouldnt it? Hell, you wouldn’t even be able to carry the rod without it unspooling. If its under the bail like it’s supposed to be ,and he doesn’t open it, line wont budge....sounds like what he’s describing.

I don't think it would unspool very far It would probably catch pretty quick on the bail pivot point and hang up! Somehow it sounds like he bought a level wind. That should cure a first timer! :-) See someone mentioned a spin cast reel, closed face spinning. That could be the problem. I had trouble with them many years ago and after the first, never got another.

I heard Prineville Res is accessible at the State part now. Haven't heard anything about Ochoco but been there a couple time's and liked it. Never been to Antelope Res! I mostly fish for crappie and catfish.

Trout fishing in Oregon is absolutely nothing like when I ws a kid. Mostly stocked trout now and the majority are 8" to keep and limit of 5. To many people out doing it, stocked trout are just to easy to catch! My favorite river fishing is for catfish and the river is over run with people floating and fishing. Good thing is they haven't discovered catfish! Or probably here in Oregon simply turn their nose up at them! The people that fish there mostly go for small mouth bass, over run with small ones!

I seldom ever fish for trout anymore either but looking through stuff year or so ago, i Found a small tackle box full of power bait. Girl friend don like crappie or cars so she says but does like trout. Might use some up catching a few trout for her. For eatin' I can take them or leave them and then the limit is five. Long way to where I can get into them for five 8" stocked fish! If God had meant for people to eat trout of salmon, he wouldn't have made crappie and catfish!

No, low profile baitcasters line guide does not move during cast it is stationary

Well what do you know. Had to go check my low profile and the line guide doesn't go back and forth when you cast So check my older direct drives and it does on them.

All level winds do that. That's why they are called level wind.

Two of my ABU do not have it, 5000 and 2500 don't. ABU 6500 has it. My Kastking Rover 40 has it, my Daiwa Millionaire has it, My ABU 6501 has it, my Shakespeare SKP 2000C has it and my Ocuma and Daiwa line counter's have it. Pretty common on round bait caster's. Only have one low profile bait caster, a Daiwa and it doesn't have it.

Years agoI had a Shorthair like that. Turned out if was a food allergy. Changed food and never had anther. Got a dog like that right now and it's not food. she get's two 32.4 mg Phenobarbital a day and they stopped. Her seizure's were much stronger and longer lasting than my Shorthair's. Supposed to be hereditary so I called her breeder and there's no know in her back ground.

When my old Skipper passed I went six months without a dog and it damn near killed me. Never been below two again and right now four!

I don't kow that I've ever owned a Zebco rod. But if it's made today and not ugly I'd certainly try it. Something I believe about fishing and hunting equipment we are living in a time where junk doesn't last! Most equipment is very well made. Doesn't mean we don't have favorite's in everything! Of course we do. Ya know something a $20 fishing rod will do just s well as a $300 rod? Break when a door get's shut on it by accident! Year ago I got a Kastking Rover 40 to see if it was as bad as a guy on the internet was saying. Needed a rod and being the tight wad I am, found a Berkley Cherrywood for just under $20 on the internet, bought it! Less than $65 invested in rod and reel and got a lot of cat's with it last year up to 6 1/2 pound's and been a good rod, not one complaint. In fact I got another Berkley Cherrywood for another reel I got on a whim, both working well beyond their price range. Sometime's I think I should splurge and spend some real money on a rod and I think back about rods broken in door's and the urge goes away!
