plumbertom above, is probably the best answer (for me at least).....If U R squeamish on your harvest (fish or otherwise) ......."Please Do the the Catch & Release Every time"......and leave those "fish n others" to those who will catch, prep, cook and dine on it.....we do respect the harvest and thank the LORD FOR IT. and like T-420,..."after all they sustain us".....ALL !!!..(almost).....again, unless U R a Total Vegan and do NOT eat "Fish n or Seafood".
The Gentlemen Above have given the Best Advice..... there is on planet earth !!!...BEFORE spending MORE $$$......my take is, if U have spare TIME....go to YouTube and LOOK at Fishing Videos therein..., there are TON's of them, look for your Topics and or Subjects..... and Cheers, ......go get your Beer and Snacks and Relax....Happy Viewing!....
I am TELLING U this because I STARTED like U do....
Wow...Bud,....I could RELATE to your predicament !!!.....I have WAY than U have shown, more than double !....I was supposed to have ONLY 2 Rods, now I got 8....eight !...and luckily for the wifey, I do NOT have a Boat yet!......Welcome to the Club!
Will.....so what's the POINT,......" he wants to go fishing and he wants to get an ASSURANCE to get FISH for the dinner table."......as I've said AND OTHERS TOO....There ARE NO GUARANTEES in Fishing!.......and so if your premise is to PROVIDE / GIVE the Local Kids bait and munchies, they will SHARE their catch....NICE...but the guys question....was ASKING for TIPS on Lures and Equipment ....and whether the caught fish is edible?...@#$%^&**()_....No wonder, a lot of the Pinoy's ARE FED-Up...their mind set is weird..they want easy going laisseez faire,...NO Responsibilities and EXPECT their Government to Solve all THEIR Problems....Good Luck.
Many very Good Friends of mine are a Pinoy's, when they saw this, they asked me to REPLY to your Queries, piece by piece....that I was too naive on my reply above,,,They said....FILIPINOs NEEDS to be MORE RESOURCEFUL and Responsible ...NOT LAZY like Juan Tamad... .U live near a river and a lake and NEVER tried fishing?..."Sabi nila....masyado daw po kayong mayaman, utusan na lang daw ninyo yung katulong ninyu para bumili ng isda sa tiangge!"....Secondly,..if worm baits are a icky hazzle to U, ....Forget about Fishing, because if U snag your line into the Rocks or Structure, that is even MORE hazzle,.... think about having a "birds nest" in your Reel....Artificial Lures are so DAMN EXPENSIVE, think about the cheapest JIG in here cost a Dollar at least, the average one should be a $3 per piece, got that?..( with the rate of a US Dollar at 55 pesos ...@#$%^&*(&^%)......VERY EXPENSIVE...INDEED.......There are NO guarantees in Fishing!.......U need a LOT of Time and Patience, (IF U DO NOT HAVE PATIENCE my Friend...Stick to Dancing and Star Gazing!) just like they said......so "sabi nila ulitin ko daw po...... Utusan na lang daw po ninyo yung katulong ninyu para bumili ng isda sa tiangge!".....Magandang Gabi Daw Po sa Inyong Lahat Diyan!....
Before BUYING some EXPENSIVE Fishing Equipment or paraphernalia,.... I suggest U go to YouTube and View a LOT of those "Primitive Fishing" (mostly based in Asia, like Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam) so they SHOULD RELATE to your Area.....I have seen them, and was AMAZED just how simple they fish, they DO NOT HAVE sophisticated Implements/ or Fishing Equipment at all ( I would call them crude and primitive items like bamboo sticks, tubes, etc.)....BUT they Catch lots of SPECIES of Fish (from the SEA or River or Creek or Canal, Mangrove, Swamp, Rice Fields, etc.)...mudfish, catfish, tilapia, crabs, lobster, crawfish, etc...and lastly,....There are NO guarantees in Fishing!...U need a LOT of Time and Patience, (IF U DO NOT HAVE PATIENCE my Friend...Stick to Dancing and Star Gazing!) just like they said,....Trial and Error, Study the Fish, Weather, Moon Phase, Fishing Etiquette, Hydro-graphic Map of the Area and MUCH more....before buying your fishing pole and bait!....Sad to say KNOW FIRST what U R going into,...otherwise its cheaper to BUY your Fish in the Market!.....Good Luck!
Looks like Mudfish to me.......In the Far East (Asia) this guy should be a gourmet soup......even a grilled one are good .....but if they eat Bass eggs (really?) before killing them maybe the marine biologist out there should say something.
I am an OLD NEWBIE (75) so it relates.....MOST of the Advice by almoy, tevo are fine.....in addition to that TRY viewing some YouTube VIDEOS.....a LOT of Fishing Subjects.... and U will be amazed just how many there R out there....if U tried one, it will LEAD you to another similar or the same subject!...That's how I am learning my thinggeee in here....Happy Viewing!!!
Ok....Got into the YouTube Tutorials and got ALL the ANSWERS from there.....Tnx Guys!
WOW....Tnx, I did not know that!
I have read in the Digest Forum here...(I am a novice fisherman, trying to learn my "inherited equipment", named above), ....it's a lot of queries, I know, to be a fisherman!
What's about "the Pin and Brake" of Bait Casting Reel, where are these located? what does it do?.....
And I have seen some Dial Marks w/ Red and Green n #s (on the left side of the reel). what does it do? or what's being represented here?..
And there is a secondary Crank? and a Third one that is directly connected to the Line Spool?....
Secondly,...I need to know exactly what the DRAG is?...Just heard here, .."Loosen the drag" and "Tighten the drag"...which way?....What does it do when it's LOOSE ?...or TIGHT?....for small or big fish, maybe?...
Thanks again Guys, for your patience!
Dipstik Sir......are U sure that cleaning and de-greasing using WD-40..... will NOT bring out that "trigger" scent / smell to the fish?...I have read somewhere in this Digest Forum, that Gas Fumes (from our hands), Dishwashing Liquid, Hand Lotion, etc..... will trigger the fish olfactory functions to move or shy away from bait and fishing implements.....I hope U Sir have used the WD-40 before....Tnx for your input.

Reel is more than likely just gummed up with old grease disassemble de-grease and re-lub
Ok.....having same problem here.....inherited from some old friends some old reels and rods (bait casting-Quantum I310MG and Ryobi GM-40,.... spinning- Shimano 4000 and Abu Garcia SX-30,..... and fly casting- Berkley 510).....you guys just gave me an idea of refurbishing them.....I am using the Shimano and the Abu Garcia but I would like to use the others if I can make them "smooth casting"...so whats the trademark of the REEL degreaser and Oil?...a novice fisherman here....so please help and guide me....the proper way to refurbish these reels n rods ...while waiting for the Central California spring spawn....crappie season....Tnx Guys!
Tnx a lot capt pete........wow they R that deep......no wonder I did not even feel a light bite at 30 - 35 feet!......tnx again....Happy New Year!
Basically I am fairly new in Fishing, so I hope I do NOT get to bore U Guys Totally...We hope to fish the Lake on January 2019, not sure yet bcoz I only get invited on my pardners Tracker boat when he decides to go....So the question really is..... How do we get to catch Crappies (or etc.) during the Winter?...Its a broad Topic, but maybe lets start with DEPTH?....what kind of Baits?....Type?...Color?....etc?...TNX Guys!........Ok Guys....Thats me and my First Crappie last summer.
