can you take a close up shot of the trunk?

Thought about including this in the earlier post, but was hoping the leaf shape and seed-pods would be enough to make an identification !

Tulip tree ? That's a new one on
me ! Mom used to grow tulips in
her flower garden, but I've never
heard of (or seen) them growing on trees ! I don't recall ever seeing any flowers of any kind or color on this tree - the bark looks (to me) a lot
like the crรชpe-skin on my arms
lately !

Maybe the earlier photo doesn't
show them well enough, but those look a lot more like seed-pods than berries - don't recall seeing berries, either !

(Is there a botanist in the house ?)

Big A..... it's more like seasoned firewood, perfectly aged..

Another phrase that sounds suspiciously familiar as I used
to joke with some of my lady
friends - "Older guys are like a
good wine or a really good, aged whiskey - we may be a little old,
but we go down smo-o-o-oth !

Very similar to our New England expression - "What ? You don't like
our weather ? Just wait 5 minutes -
it'll change !"

I remember one year when we got
a surprise storm blow through just
a few days before Memorial Day
that dropped about 4" - just when we thought it was safe to go swimming !
Some of my friends and I had BEEN
swimming just two days prior !

Many of the folk on here either
garden or farm, so I was hoping
someone could enlighten me -
what kind of tree is this ?

Being from the northeast, I had
never seen one until I moved here,
and am curious as to what's growing just outside my door ! Can anyone identify it for me ?

The photos show the leaves and
seed pods h*****g from long,
slender shoots from the bigger,
main branches - have never seen
a tree with such large seed-pod clusters before, either ! Does
anyone know what kind of tree
this is ? - Thank you in advance
for any light shed on this question !

Whitey and OJ were just discussing
spring storms on GCC, which triggered a memory from way back
in/around 1980 !

My folks had been living in Florida
for a few years - in April of 1980
they came back to N.H. early !
Although they usually arrived for
the summer just before Memorial
Day, for some reason they were
about 5-6 weeks early and arrived
on April 4th ! The next morning,
mom woke up to about 5 or 6
inches of heavy wet snow, and
man, was she put out !

I remember her tone and attitude
very vividly, as it was totally out of character for her ! When the family got together for her birthday party
that evening (April 5th), she let
loose a string of expletives as everyone gathered for dinner, and
got a bunch of surprised looks from
all of us, until my sister asked her what was wrong !

"Seriously ? I came home early for THIS ? I could have stayed in Florida another month had I known this
would happen ! This is one HELL
of a birthday present, and one
I really could have done without !"

Once she cooled off and calmed
down, we all had a good laugh over her outburst and conniption fit -
she REALLY didn't appreciate that
particular birthday surprise and just needed to vent her disappointment !

Not sure if it was the same year, but around that time we got a REAL surprise - on or about June 4th, out
of a clear blue sky on a 75ยฐ day, a
few heavy clouds passed over and
the temperature dropped quickly
and suddenly ! We actually got
a snow shower that lasted for
about 15 minutes, with the snow coming fast, hard and nearly horizontally ! Ten minutes after
that cloud passed, it cleared up quickly and we were back in the
70 to 75 degree range like nothing
untoward had happened !

New England weather - ya gotta
love it ! Talk about unpredictable !

If you have a smart phone this is what I do.
Take a screenshot of it then go to your photos and select it. Go to edit, upper right hand corner and from there you can crop your picture. Then you can post it.
If your having troubles I can walk you through it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but
I got that ad ON my phone and downloaded it directly to my photo gallery, then posted it from there ! Don't know why, but some things
I download that way come up as photos, while others come up as downloads !
Technology - ain't it grand ?

For us seasoned citizens do you remember in the fifties people building fallout shelters in their backyards?

'Seasoned', Larry ? Now there's
a spin on getting old that I hadn't
seen or heard ! Kinda like a
'seasoned' steak that's been
'aged' to perfection ? Some people criticize my behaviour and tell me
to 'act my age', so I just respond like this !

(Damn ! I h**e when it comes up as
a 'Download' instead of the photo !)

Yes. Exactly. Not well.

Wasn't great for the Russian people either, after the revolution and the 'C****es' took over ! Look up and read the 'C*******t Manifesto' - it clearly states that keeping the people ignorant, forbidding the practice of their religion, and taking away their guns were all precepts/pr********ns to their takeover of the country !

That's okay ! I can do that
'figuratively', but for me it would be
a physical impossibility, even when
I was in better shape ! Now it would
be truly impossible, as I can barely
bend over to tie my shoelaces !

Well, how about cutting us some slack here..I detect a little 'one upmanship' here in some of the posts, just because one doesn't like having anything on their steak, and someone else wants catsup, why would either be superior? They aren't, in my humble opinion! Well, I have even seen people eat steak completely raw! Are they superior to the rest of us? No! So, put a cork in your superiority attitudes, be a little more tolerant, if you can. Just Sayin...RJS

Wasn't trying to say that any one
way was better than the others, or trying to 'one-up' anyone, RJ ! Was
just expressing my preferences and what I've been taught by someone who really knew his business !
I've had raw hamburger in the past, and although not totally raw, I've
had steak done 'black and blue' !
It's not for everyone, just my own preferences based on what I've learned ! As stated - to each his
own !

Actually (as mentioned in an earlier post), there IS more freedom of expression here in the Attic, both for content and language - the only real draw-back is having to reply here (or via PM) to posts from the other
sections, which can get tiresome !
Will deal with it as long as necessary, as I have no intention of jumping through anyone's hoops or kissing butt to get back on the other three !

Not offended, but kinda fed up with the bickering - just too reminiscent
of certain parts of my homelife in
my youth, which I'd rather leave
behind and forget about !

Hehehe....heard that Kansas City residents thought about rejecting the choice of Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback of the Chiefs, when it was revealed that he ALWAYS puts ketchup on his steak !!!
And him a Texas boy with access to good beef, must've been some slack in parental guidance, somewhere along the way....lol.
I suppose we should give him just a tiny bit of credit.....at least TTU (Mahomes' alma mater)and the Chiefs are predominantly "dressed in red"...... guess he combined his "childhood eating disorder" (Kansas Cattlemen's Assoc. 'probable assessment' regarding ANY "sauces" on a steak) with his uniform color, who knows ?

The only "sauce" my steaks get is the Worcestershire sauce and butter combo that I use to "finish sear" my steaks.

Buy QUALITY beef (no "Harris Ranch" crap or such) and cook it properly.... the only thing to top it with, imo, is some bleu cheese and grilled onions........... okay, okay......I HAVE been known to wrap the steak in peppered bacon........
Hehehe....heard that Kansas City residents thought... (show quote)

I also use Worcestershire, but only
for the marinade - unless it's a
'tougher' cut that needs a little help,
I almost never use any sauce on a properly cooked steak, just the salt and pepper !

As for bleu cheese, you are welcome to mine, as I've never been a fan -
I still have a pretty good 'sniffer'
and can often smell mold on bread before you can see it ! Whether it be bread, cheese or wh**ever, if I get a whiff of mold, it's gone (circular file) !
