Whitey and OJ were just discussing
spring storms on GCC, which triggered a memory from way back
in/around 1980 !
My folks had been living in Florida
for a few years - in April of 1980
they came back to N.H. early !
Although they usually arrived for
the summer just before Memorial
Day, for some reason they were
about 5-6 weeks early and arrived
on April 4th ! The next morning,
mom woke up to about 5 or 6
inches of heavy wet snow, and
man, was she put out !
I remember her tone and attitude
very vividly, as it was totally out of character for her ! When the family got together for her birthday party
that evening (April 5th), she let
loose a string of expletives as everyone gathered for dinner, and
got a bunch of surprised looks from
all of us, until my sister asked her what was wrong !
"Seriously ? I came home early for THIS ? I could have stayed in Florida another month had I known this
would happen ! This is one HELL
of a birthday present, and one
I really could have done without !"
Once she cooled off and calmed
down, we all had a good laugh over her outburst and conniption fit -
she REALLY didn't appreciate that
particular birthday surprise and just needed to vent her disappointment !
Not sure if it was the same year, but around that time we got a REAL surprise - on or about June 4th, out
of a clear blue sky on a 75ยฐ day, a
few heavy clouds passed over and
the temperature dropped quickly
and suddenly ! We actually got
a snow shower that lasted for
about 15 minutes, with the snow coming fast, hard and nearly horizontally ! Ten minutes after
that cloud passed, it cleared up quickly and we were back in the
70 to 75 degree range like nothing
untoward had happened !
New England weather - ya gotta
love it ! Talk about unpredictable !
Big A. They always say around here if ya don't like Ohio weather today wait tell tomorrow ๐ an I've had 18" of snow on my birthday April 3rd

Thatโs so funny I grew up with, โ if you donโt like Cleveland weather give it 15 minโ ๐๐คฃ๐
Very similar to our New England expression - "What ? You don't like
our weather ? Just wait 5 minutes -
it'll change !"
I remember one year when we got
a surprise storm blow through just
a few days before Memorial Day
that dropped about 4" - just when we thought it was safe to go swimming !
Some of my friends and I had BEEN
swimming just two days prior !
Yep! We have a similar saying here in Texas, Like wait 15 minutes and it will change! Just Sayin ...RJS
