While truly a tearful story, it’s also a story about happiness. True story. When I was dating my first wife we met a little girl one day that lived down the street. She was 5 years old with golden yellow hair, sky blue eyes and just exuberant about life. We would walk down the street to where she was playing and talk and play with her, usually several times a week. This went on for 9-10 months and we became attached to her and really looked forward to our meetings. Never met her parents or even saw them in all that time. Then on several walks one week we did not see her and also noticed her house was dark and the family car was gone. A couple of weeks later the car was back in the driveway but no little girl playing in the yard. We went and knocked on the door to inquire about Sharon, how she was doing and that we missed her. Her mother came to the door, we introduced ourselves, explained we had been visiting and playing with her, and missed her. Sharon’s mother’s eyes watered up with tears and she told us Sharon had leukemia and had passed away. They had gone back to their home (they were here for the husband’s work) to bury her in the family grave site. That little girl had brought us so much love and fun all the months we visited and played with her and not once did she ever let on she was sick. Joy comes in so many ways; one never knows and sometimes doesn’t recognize it till it’s too late and gone. As Robert always says-“just saying “.

Thanks woodguru for the story. I had a very good buddy that was a tunnel rat also. He loved his job to the point that we all wondered what he would or could do when he came home? He didn’t like using a pistol and perfected a knife. My father in law was an expert knife maker and welder by trade. He brought home some super fine stainless from one of his jobs and made two 12” long Bowie knives for Gary. He didn’t die in the tunnels but got blown up riding on an APC that hit a land mine. He was the first Marine from Houston killed in VN.
Sinker, I can relate to your story about bombing the “Hell “ out of VN and surrounding countries. I have another very good buddy who was a Top Gun in the Air Force. He flew 287 bombing runs during his VN duty, was never shot down and made it home safely.
These two along with all the thousands who fought in VN, the 58000 who gave their lives (RIP) and didn’t return and all the men and women that have served our country both past and present-they are my heroes and the ones I look up to; not a bunch of TV personalities, Hollywood blow hardship, over paid athletes who kneel and can’t respect this great country.
Proudly served VN “63-“65.

Thanks Oz and Amen!!! It’s bad now and only going to get worse over the next 4 years unless we can get rid of some of the loonies swimming in the swamp. Sad state of affairs when we need a 15 year old to wake us up. Everyone keep the faith. Blessings to everyone.

Well I’m an old person, well north of 80. Talking about respect- my wife and I were in Hawaii on vacation ‘19 and were out at the Arizona memorial at Pearl. There were a group of young Japanese tourists on that trip and they were making rude remarks and trash talking about the American soldiers and the “great attack” on Pearl. After a couple minutes I had enough, went over to the docent and told him he had 5 minutes to shut them up before I started throwing people overboard. I told him I was a veteran and wasn’t going to stand for it. He took charge and there wasn’t another peep from those tourists but I did get a lot of looks and some nice thank you’s from other American tourists. Vietnam ‘63-“65.

When someone has the nerve to pull up 15’-30’ from my boat I just put a few cast in their boat and snag a few goodies, they get the message pretty quickly. “I was here first so back off “ coupled with maybe loosing a landing net or something pretty much gets their attention.

Your one heck of a guy. My self born and raised Cajun-Baton Rouge, New Iberia, N.O., Houstonian now.
Your right, the Rigolets are a fantastic ever changing piece of So. LA geography.
Fished there, down the Mississippi to the delta, over to the Chandeliers. Die hard salt fisher but now going to try my hand at bass. Don’t have a boat anymore so will be bank fishing ponds if I can find where some are located. Would love to hit Conroe and Livingston but that’s another time and day.
