Hey just recieved as a gift this old wooden tackle box. Has some COOL old lures and reels in it. Wooden crank baits and all. All in pristine condition. Got this old reel as well can anyone tell me about it?

One of the best reels ever made.

That 300 was probably made in France. Great reels.

I have 10 Mitchell reels. Love them all. Use 3 of them almost daily. You might want to order a few extra bail springs on E-bay. They wear out after several years of use if you use them daily as I do. Best reels I have ever owned. Remember to loosen the drag if you are going to store the reel for a while. You have a great find there. Congratulations. I have never seen one with the Yellow label on it. Cool!

Do a little searching on your favorite browser and you'll find even more. I found these without really trying.

He took really good care of it. It was greased and stored in a wooden tackle box of all things.

You're going to hear more about that old reel than you can believe. I'll be the first - that is the first reel I ever purchased back in 1964 for a trip to the Boundary Waters up in Minnesota/Ontario. Great memories. I used it til I went in the Navy in 1968 and then one of my nephews took it over and for all I know he's still using it.

Like you Spirit, I got a Mitchel 324 in the late 50s and went to Ely, Mn. and got outfitted with Bill Rom for a week long canoe trip into the Quetico Provincial Park. Great trip cost me less than $25 for the week including our food and the canoe.

What a great experience. I went up there with a group of fellow explorer scouts for about a week. There was an outfitter at the end of the gunflint trail that we rented canoes from. Small mouth bass and pike. Only meat we took with us was slab bacon.
