You have a Mitchell 300. An excellent reel. Have it restored and it will still be one of the best.

You're going to hear more about that old reel than you can believe. I'll be the first - that is the first reel I ever purchased back in 1964 for a trip to the Boundary Waters up in Minnesota/Ontario. Great memories. I used it til I went in the Navy in 1968 and then one of my nephews took it over and for all I know he's still using it.

One of the classics we've been talking about this week on here. Garcia Mitchell 300. Made in France prolly. All the old ones are. Great reel. A lot of us here still have and use one like it. Wish they still made them like that.

This reel works perfectly and is in wonderful condition. Also got a very old fly rod and reel and a metal fishing pole of all things.

I had a spring steel bait casting rod when I was a kid. I still have two Mitchell 300s (60s vintage) on backup rods.

That in a Mitchell 300 spinning reel I used to have a bunch of them and they work as good as today’s expensive reels only they never break.

Old Mitchell 300, probably the top freshwater reel made. Was made in France and just for your info, it spools backwards from current reels. You can also get bail springs on e-bay last I saw a couple months ago. Refurbish that one and you can pass that one on several more times. Wish I still had mine!!

Very good reel. Almost indestructible. The only part that ever seems to fail are the bail springs and I understand you can still get them.

The fly rod is a Montague flash pole and the metal rod is a Bristol.
