Home of the Jayhawks

Jess making a joke. The thread started with a Lowrance fish finder. I thought it was amusing that your location fit the thread. But then it doesn’t take much to amuse me😆!

And another tie: the Coast Guard’s HH-60 helicopter is named Jayhawk😊

Hey Seasalt, just purchased a Garmin in April or may. Bought the uhd93 & so far no issues, easy to navigate & the touch screen is nice for those of us that aren't tech savvy.

Thanks E. That's exactly what I need. They reduced price from $1100 to $699 a couple months ago and decided to purchase, but now they are back to $1100. Hopefully they will come back down before the end of the year. Like they say, "if you snooze you loose". I think Amazon has them for $849, but I think I'll wait awhile to see what happens. Thanks again.

There have been several posts here on fish finders in the past several months. I am one of those who have a Lowrance hook 2 and have not been really satisfied with it over the years. Lately it's been freezing up and I feel it's not very user friendly especially for a technology challenged person like me. I've been looking at a Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv combo with transducer. It has very good reviews. Just wondering if any of you stagers actually have one of these and can give your thoughts and experiences with this unit. Thanks

I also have the 93sv and would highly recommend it. Much more user friendly than the last 'Bird units I had. Also running the 54 transducer.

Hey seesalt: I came across a less expensive alternative if you can talk your buddy into it 🤣

I have a 93 and a 73 on my skiff. Love the touch screen. I think if you look around there are still some units available with the GT54 transducer. They are the ones you see on sale for around $700. I have never used the newer GT56 but the 54 is crisp and clear. I bought an extra GT54 off Craig's list so I could use the 93sv uhd on both my skiff and my kayak. I also have a couple of Humminbirds on my walleye boat and like them, but the Garmin is much more user friendly for me.

I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference between the 54 and the 56 transducer is the angle of the puc's.. When they originally came out, there were patents filed for both Garmin and Lowrance. Lowrance filed suit against Garmin and they agreed to pull the 54 from production and slightly changed the angle of the puc's and labeled it the 56. In exchange, Garmin provided Lowrance some intel on the live scope.

Dont ask me how I got this info or I'll have to track you down and eat all of your sammiches!! I actually shared this intel with Basspro/Cabelas marketing dept when I purchased my 93sv unit and ended up getting it for about $500. They immediately pulled them from the site as soon as my transaction was completed...LOL

Sometimes its good to have contacts in the right places at the right times!!

UPDATE: Talked with Cabelas today and they told me didn't expect any more shipments of this package. Finally got in touch with Garmin and the young lady informed me they had stopped production on this combo and were out as well. She said the only chance of finding one was if a dealer still had some in stock. She said to check Dicks Sporting goods and independent mom and pop stores. Believe it or not Dicks had them for the same price of $699.I ordered and supposed to be here by Saturday. Of course I didn't get my 10% Tuesday discount, but at least I found one. They're only producing the combo with the gt56 transducer. They are currently making the 54 transducer itself but not sure for how long. Doug I think what you said is true. I also read that the 56 is supposed to work in deeper water and have more wattage etc. Most of the YouTube videos say they can't tell much difference. Thanks for everyone's advice and help.
