!!! WARNING !!! Never buy a boat without a sea trial. I mean never. If it's winter, then at least take it to a shop where the engine can be tank tested. If the motor is winterized, then just bite the bullet and pay to get it re winterized after the test. If the seller does not go for that, walk, no, run away. The same is true for an outboard, no mater how clean it looks.

What I did was a see trial lol. I knew against my better judgement. Worse case scenario I have a row boat?

Update! Impeller and housing are shot, tore up the shaft a little as well. Sanded down the shaft and put her back together. Seems like it's working well. Hope to take it out next week!

There ya go. That would definitely cause your overheating problem. Glad you were able to fix it yourself. Good luck, once you get it in the water and hope it serves you well… 🐟on

The boy was wrenching! He did very well for 9! It was a very nice day to work with a very smart kid.
My dad and I would work together like this when I was little, there was usually alot of yelling involved. I bit my tongue a few times, he had a tendency to put the nuts in the grass. Luckily we found them and I explained why we put them in a clean clear location. No yelling involved just pure father-son time. I love it

Very cool! Nothing like a dad teaching his son how stuff fits together! He will become a great "do it yourselfer", which makes for a good way to save $$$ through out life!

That's fantastic F4C! So many kids these days are clueless when it comes to working with their hands. It will serve him well as he gets older, as well as providing great memories for the both of you. Good job Dad!

That’s awesome, F4C. It’s great that he’s got interest in mechanics. I hope he continues to be interested. It will pay off big time thru his life. And kudos to you for leading the way for him. I hope you have hours of fun and memories in your new boat… 🐟on

Thanks fellas! My generation and younger are a different breed. Hope to get the boat out to West Branch next week. I'll let yall know how we do.

Unrelated to the post, when the boy was 4 I wanted to teach him to tie his shoes. Me teaching didn't work, however he took his tablet into the other room and came back out with tied shoes. The fact he was able to get how to tie shoes on YouTube and actually apply it at that age shocked me. Boy also is in karate, his next belt is his black. He will be running a JR. Dragster this year or next depend on our schedule.

Well got the boat ready and headed up to West Branch to reel in some monsters! Left the house around 5:30, wife, son and sister all strapped in. Got to the lake and dropped her in around 7. New ignition switch and helix 7 ready to work. Headed out, no wake zone 32ft of water, 32ft turned in 1.9ft real quick in a nice weed bed. After getting out of that I started to get on it, top speed 9mph. WTH!!! Goes into gear and revs but doesn't move. Sounding like I spun the hub.... Had to get a tow back... not only is the boat broke but I got no fish. Can't wait to go out and noting break. 😔

Well got the boat ready and headed up to West Bran... (show quote)

Wow F4C, if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all. I hope and pray that this is your last hurdle to clear. Good luck on your next trip

Not critiquing your work, but could you have not gotten everything lined up correctly when you reinstalled the lower unit? 🤷‍♂️ just a possibility if it was moving out prior, even though it was getting hot…
