We used all three sizes 1, 2 -1/2 and 5-gallon gas cans at work for a number of years and always found them to be a pain in the ass to use. We always had trouble with the release button sticking and trying to put gas in lawn mowers, tractors and other vehicle's because they were hard to try and balance them and hold the button in at the same time because the button wouldn't push in or it wouldn't release when done filling up.

Go to youtube and search "gas can".
You'll find a LOT of videos about how to modify your politically correct gas can so that it'll actually be useable.

thanks Rheatown.
it was ok but,
i couldn't depress the button with the spout in the fill hole of a car...too short.
adding a clear vinyl extension tube might work
it also needed an air bleeder hole, as they all seem to.
and the handles were in the wrong spot, the one on the spout was useless.
that's my take on the the Briggs and Straton "press and pour".
yet, another waste of money.

wow! thanks, seems to me that the manufacturers are constantly changing threads and one has a hard time sealing other spouts to your can.
like a light bulb the threads should be small, or medium, or large...that's it!. any small would fit a small!
it's gas, for god sake.
but of course... we have been wrong before.

Yeah exactly. Private Industry is changing the threads and sizes etc to force public to buy a newer design they rip you off with. The rule is same. The more expensive smaller push button type work well for chainsaws and even mowers but they are NOT 5 gallons. The whole reason it ever happened was to reduce fuel fumes in garages and in areas where not so smart people have open flames in water heaters etc. houses blow up but oh well silly is silly does.

Just remember the people constantly changing the red gas cans are the private companies that want you to constantly need newer types.

Barnacles has great advice as well as one can buy and modify your cans. There are aftermarket spouts that will still reduce fumes and work better.

Ya I hate it for youns I just hope the rules stay out that way I never thought a man would be allowed to rob a store with no punishment but get fined trying to fill up a jug Lol we can still use regular old jugs here without fines and hadn’t heard of anyone blowing their house up yet so hopefully it’ll stay that way

People can fill up whatever they want wherever. The problem is availability. Unless it’s FULL SERVICE only you can fill your coffee cup if you wanted.

If you think there hasn’t been any fires from idiots with gas cans in their houses or garages you’re not looking.

Tennessee law says one thing but doesn’t matter

Thank you for your investigation reports the cans we use are approved for fuel just don’t have them goofy spouts on them that takes 3 hands to try to operate and as far as the woman killed goes to show stupid people are still roaming around if they’re carrying an open container of gas in the front of a car and try smoking then we’ll write that one off as divine intervention
