I never caught or seen a live Pickerel but did watch the Y-bone removal thread that can be used on other species of fish:-)

Most people hate them. I however, am a big fan. While they are not Northern Pike they are great fighters and aggressive fish. I fish Lake Winnipesauke in Moultonborough. I regularly catch them at 19 inches plus. I keep the ones 19 inches or longer. They are a challenge to clean as they have wye bones. Go to YouTube and learn how to remove them. The meat is delicious. The largest I have caught on this lake is 23 inches. This is my friend Joe with his 23 incher he caught last week. Is is a Southern man as well.

I agree max, the larger, heavier ones are great fighters. I just lose to many rigs to em. Small ones ones become critter food, large ones are released.

Pickerel are as much fun to catch as any fish I know. They jump, thrash and are just fun.

I've never targeted them but the times I manage to hook one, they are absolute masters of throwing your hook. I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I've actually boat or bank flipped them.

Nice pickerel, I used to have a cottage in Tamworth. I fished lake Chocura many times. There are some nice smalliies and large mouth bass in there. They also stock it with trout in the spring. Again nice catch!!!
