There is a nice campground on the river above Shasta lake at Sims road just off I5 south of Dunsmuir. Good trout fishing all along the river around there. I think they just stocked it too! Probably 15 degrees cooler than the valley. I might just have to go up there myself tomorrow come to think of it!

Castle crags is a great place to stay. Great hikes and very accessible river fishing. Be mindful of black bears!!
