That's a real Slab Nanook! I've never caught one, I don't think they're very common up here. Good Job.

Thanks red they’re kind of like a giant bluegill the way they fight 😂

Wish Danger was on here to see this!

Hi Kandy,
I actually met Danger this morning on my way to church. The last two weeks I was going to church. The boat was there, but when I got out the boat was gone , I did tell him about the fish .. when I was posting the picture I missed this one. This is the one I wanted to post.

Yup 👍 I kept telling him you’re coming home with me and he kept saying oh no I’m not. I said yes you are and he said no I’m not for about four minutes. Lol ! He’s in the fridge now. 👍

Wow ! And off the beach. I’ve seen a few of these by bulkheads and jetties. This is first time I’ve heard of from the surf. I hope we get to see these become more and more plentiful.

I’m fishing next to a jetty, but these to Jerry’s have an underwater wall running between them, so there is structure 👍

The Sheepsuead can really pull some drag muscle fish as they are quik to pile wrap you up:-)!!

Interesting sand fleas do make sense will try them. We normally catch all our Pompano's and some Permit's and smaller snappers on fleas.
Also interesting is the surf catch it there structure around where you fished as mentioned above normally we catch our Sheepshead near pilings and rock barriers aka jetties.
I am a free diver for over 65 years and can't ever recall seing a Sheepshead over sand bottom near shore, unless rocks or structures near by.
Will give them a try if we cant catch our crabs first, we get Popmanos on the crabs as well and if real large fiddlers we can get a Permit too.

Yes, there is structure there by the jetty im fishing so I just figured out how to do it from the beach. When lifeguards are there you can’t get on the jetty when the tide comes halfway up, you can’t get on the jetty and plus I don’t have to lug a big net out to the Jetty. I can just land them on the beach. 👍

That size would win 1st in the ADSFR. Nice shehead. Have you ever cooked them on the half shell? They are delish, you can clean and gut, leave the scales on and grill the filets with your favorite season salt and butter.
