Hope this ain't a dumb question. Can you have more than two in the boat as long as you don't use but two at a time. Just in case one breaks or goes overboard??
For here, as long as you are using just one at a time it’s no problem you can have as many as you can carry along with you.

In CA you can have as many poles with you as you want as long as you only have one line in the water at a time unless you have a two pole liscense.

Thanks TJ. Does this law in both Salt and Fresh Water? When I troll offshore I have 5 rods out over here. 2 on outriggers 2 flat lined and 1 on a down rigger. Is that allowed past the 3 mile state water line?

U are right my 2023 license with a two rod stamp and no add-on’s was $62. I bought it in January of this year. Don’t know why yours cost $84. You are so right. No senior discount or veteran and the highest license fee in the nation. They did an audit last year a found that over 40 percent of our license fees are diverted to the State’s general fund.!!!

Well I grew up in Clovis. Fished every where around there avidly. Moved to north idaho about 8 years ago. Senior combo hunt and fish license for 3 years is $31.75 plus $18.00 per year for 2nd pole. Lake pend orielle up here you can use as many rods as you want. Plus vehicle registration is $50.00 per year and an additional $10.00 for a state park pass that allows you free admission to any state park in idaho. Only down side to fishing lakes here is that many of the lakes are almost totally surrounded by private homes and you can only fish them from a few open areas or you have to have a boat to fish. All the lakes do have public boat launches so they are all open to fish. But over all fishing is much better here then California. Lots of kokonee fishing along with other types of salmon, black and smallmouth, cat fish and huge Pike. Plus ice fishing in winter. I have about 18- 20 small to huge lakes from 10 minutes to 35 minutes away from me.

When I first came to Colorado they had an extra fee for a second rod. Mostly I never used two rods at once but one year I decided what the hell and bought the extra rod stamp. I was at one of my favorite lakes and the fishing was slow so I upped the odds and baited one and let it sink to the bottom while I picked up another and was fishing a spinner. Mikey luck was in full swing. Two rods two fish at the same time and I was alone well while I was fighting the fish in hand the one that had picked up my bait took off and took my rod with it. Some fancy footwork saved the rod from going into the water, I landed the fish in hand and by the time I got back to the other rod the monster was gone. I don’t fish with two rod anymore…
When I first came to Colorado they had an extra fe... (show quote)

I fish with two rods all the time when I bank fish, sometimes I have one for trout and the other for catfish and carp . And had a few Chinese fire dills with two fish at once. Gets the heart pumping.

I would think if you are out of state water they have no say on what to fish with.

I guess that's why everyone wants to move to Florida we give free hunting and fishing license at the age of 65 (which I turned in May) and all kinds of discounts for seniors on almost everything, which I think if you have worked all your life and paid taxes you should get some benefits...🎣🎣

With all the old timers in Fla I am surprised the state hasn't gone broke giving senior discounts.....

I spoke to a professional air gunner and he makes around $150K/year shooting iguanas in south Florida. He has gigs with some of the high end resorts and golf clubs, rides around in a pick up with a .22 air rifle and pops them out of the trees and along the intercoastal waterways. almost makes me want to move to Florida.

Your surprise (and resentment) would be better placed in why you're taxed to death in CA and get nothing in return.

I just fished a lake that got its first plant since it was drained ( about 3 yrs ago) I caught lots of fish, nothing over 11 inches and most were 6 to 7 inches. What happened to the 12-15 inchers they used to plant. That’s what you get with you $68.00 license
