Thank you NJ219! Not a lot of quantity today...but a very spunky smallmouth and it gave me a thrill even though it was a solo catch! I ended up getting a good workout with paddling during the trolls, and that is partly why I enjoy the kayak so much anyways!

Nice fish fy!
Thank you OJ! It was a super healthy one and full of P & V! I felt like a rodeo fish tamer trying to calm it down for a few snapshots!

Cartwheeling smallmouth bass this morning while casting a Mepps #3 sized black fury spinner over a shallow rocky shoal. The added yellow grub tail makes this one irresistible for the smallies.
This bass struck as soon as I turned the reel handle half a crank. I sure love it when a random cast ends up being right over top of a waiting fish! I was entreated to a large variety of aerial acrobatics...including a boat side shower that got me pretty drenched from a series of tail scoop splashes and skitter scoots!
The water was as smooth as a sheet of turquoise linoleum this morning. What a great way to start the day!

Thank you mistred64! Definitely a fun time on the water...with baited anticipation of having something lurking below to strike a lure!

Thank you Whitey! A completely serene morning for sure! The only wake I noticed was the size of what a pebble would make from a Minnkota trolling motor that a guy was using about a mile away from where I was paddling and fishing!

Thank you kandydisbar! It is among my favorite places to spend time on the water, and being close to home is a bonus. Glad you enjoyed the story and photos!
Unless the wind comes in from the North, or is very strong from elsewhere, this Lake Michigan bay (locally known as East Bay) tends to be protected enough to always allow a chance to be in the kayak and fishing! West Bay, on the flip side of Old Mission peninsula, tends to be the same way.
Thank you Bstrong! Glad you enjoyed the story and photos!

That's a great smallie!
Thank you Paul Fish! These local bass are a lot of fun to pursue all Summer long in a variety of places along the shorelines of Lake Michigan. Whether on the troll or casting...it is becoming one of my favorite pursuits these days!
Beeeautiful!
I've been working on getting into yak fishing. Looks like you had a great day.

Thank you Steve 83! If you enjoy getting into some places where a boat can be challenging...a kayak is definitely a fun way to go! Storage and transport can be more simplified as well. I have been using a "touring" styled kayak for a long time because they tend to be lighter than the more modern dedicated fishing kayaks...although ultimately the size and weight of the kayak is up to you in terms of how you plan to use and deploy it.
Good luck on your research, and be sure to check out the used equipment market before buying brand new. Glad you enjoyed the story and photos!
