Watching the news this evening got me thinking. Our society has turned to shi$$. Flash mobs, shootings , out of control street racing in larger cities cheered on by teenagers on the streets. Why are these kids out instead of home? Protests, that again have youngsters out past curfew, and lead to adults looting and violence. Protesting peacefully is your right but causing property damage and stealing TV's is not. Our country is a mess and we're collectively better than this.

So I ask,
without getting political,
left or right,
black or white,

What do you think would help American people work together for the greater good of all of us?

I know I'm speaking to mostly older people here on the stage so what could be done to get younger parents to real in their kids and teach them right from wrong AT HOME?

How do we get this country working together as a whole again?
We used to be a proud country and respected in the world. We can be that again.

Again, if you choose to respond, no politics, no sides. Just citizens talking how we can make things better.

Maybe we'll all get elected to congress. We can vote ourselves a week fishing break every three months.

How about having a father at home to put his boot up your a!!

I watch a program called "The First 48". it a real police investigation program and the title is derived from the fact that if the crime isn't solved in the first 48 hours, the the chances of it being solved has decreased by 50%. Now not wanting to offend anybody because I don't know what is the accepted terminology Black/African American males are the ones most likely killed. A large portion of these had kids 1, 2 even up to 6 and those poor kids and their mothers are left behind. It is so sad and hurtful. And most of these guys weren't bad. They were loving fathers. But these poor kids will be scarred for the rest of their life.

Reminds of a story several years ago when our city proposed tearing down one of the city’s most crime ridden housing projects. They interviewed a single mother who resided there on our local news. She said where are me and my babies gonna go? My grandma was raised here, my mother raised me here and now I’m trying to raise my kids here. Wow. Three generations of one family with no father around living in government subsided housing. Really! Did any of the three generations really try to better themselves. Talk about intitlement! If it’s so bad , pull your yourself up and do your best to change it. There are so many organizations and opportunities available today to help those who are struggling. But you have to want it! So sorry for the children!

Too many fatherless, Godless people strung out on drugs, willing to take what other's have worked hard to attain. Grown men hanging on to momma's retirement check robbing her the ability to even afford her medicine and God forbid they need their Oxycodone for their pain med's get taken. Even our generation has had evil, wicked people only the social media platforms now bring the mess in the world to the light. I've had a retired cop once tell me, he and a partner would put black kids up to breaking into electronics stores in the 50's and 60's steal stuff. What the world needs is Jesus and follow the teachings of the Bible, but we're getting so close to the End Time's thing's are just going to get worse until God tells Christ to get His bride.

I am not really trying to blame everything on the kids. As parents, we have an obligation to raise our kids to become responsible adults and productive members of society. So, we agree with one another. The failing starts with the parents and home life. It is extremely hard to raise a child in a single parent household. It is almost impossible to raise a child to become a productive member of society if the past 2 or 3 generations have depended on welfare to get by.

It is mostly on the parents. Teach your kids to be respectable members of society for the greater good. Parents that defend their children's bad behavior are worthless to the greater good and those kids became the next generation of worthlessness. Too many parents think it's all about me, me, me. And as was said before they want the schools to raise their kids because "I'm busy with my own life". Then why did you have kids?!

Hate to say it... but with which one?? Seems so many "Single Moms" have several kids all with different last names. They're single by choice. Whether the choice was to stay single and rob the system, or just stupid life choices.... it was still by choice...

Doug,
I recognize and respect different views on societal issues.
From my space, this whole thread is chock full of ignorance and makes me contemplate removing myself from the Fishing Stage.
Can we just get back to fishing?
Otherwise show me the data that supports any of your contentions ("Seems so many..." appears imaginary unless you have data.)

But should the children pay the price for the parents mistakes? Far too often the children are blamed for how they turned out due to bad or non-existent parenting. When normalcy is life growing up in hell, you can’t fault someone for continuing their life in hell thats just normal. If you always got beat and a boot up your ass then that is normal and you will carry it forward wether its right or wrong.

Don't you recognize that this is all on a non fishing part of the STAGE?

With all due respect.. this thread is in a category named "General Chit-Chat (non-fishing talk)". Participation in this thread is voluntary.

My "Data" on the imaginary issue has been collected from 21 years of owning 13 rental buildings and seeing all walks of families.. Yes, I respect the fact that bad decisions, bad circumstances, etc can happen, but all too often they are just repeated.. repeated by poor choices...

Just my perspective, my opinion, apparently my ignorance.. good night.

Birth control is not a new concept.

Admittedly not. Thanks for pointing out.
But still; show the data that supports your contentions.
Otherwise it may appear to some as simple BS.

Do what you gotta do. It’s your loss not ours. The data is everywhere. Just open your eyes. There’s none so blind than those who won’t see. For some, giving birth is a paying occupation. What normal women would continue to have 4,5, 6,7,8 children with multiple sperm donors as a single parent knowing that they will grow up in poverty and most likely continue the tradition. For a lot of them it’s how they support their drug addiction. It’s sad. But that’s what many do. I was involved in the foster system for quite a few years and saw it on a regular basis. And there’s no denying it. It is what it is… 🐟on
