They might not "like" flies, but they sure attract a lot of flies after being out of the water for a while!!

I've caught a lot of catfish over the years but never on a fly. But then no self respecting catfish would be caught dead where I do a lot of my trout fishing - clear cold high Sierra streams. But I'll bet if you targeted them with a streamer in a lake or river that holds them, you might catch one or two. They do eat other fish. Especially flatheads. Never say never.

People just don't realize how big Texas is, until you try to drive across it. LOL
I have some times thought, Texas has no borders.
I have driven South to North, and East to West. Only got one speeding ticket.
Get-there-itus, is a difficult and demanding disease after a few hours of central Texas.

Find a place to get fresh ones never frozen.

I get mine from a local Chicken restaurant/fast food place they have only been out of the chicken 3 days and never frozen.

They even hang on a single hook.

I have tried that. But I was reading an article the other day about using women’s stockings or cheese cloth to bind the liver together so it will stay on the treble hook; not dissolve like it usually does.

I have used chicken hearts soaked in raw garlic, salt, sardine oil, brown sugar and chili pepper extract and it works really well on all species; stays on the hook easier as well. Livers are so fragile and seem to disintegrate. (Hence the binding technique I am going to try), I will probably get a few containers of livers, marinate one and see what works better.

Just reviewed a winter catfishing video on the YouTube Catfishing and Carp channel (the guy from Virginia). His advice is to review the water available for deep spots, other deep areas near the mouths of streams flowing into larger bodies, and other spaces (he describes) as being gathering places for large groups of mixed-species fish populations. The key apparently has to do with temperature, and the still deeper places tend to concentrate the big guys, who apparently go into near-hibernation in the depths as surface temps get lower. I really enjoy that channel, as the Dad is really trying to turn his passion for fishing into a real character-building journey for him and his kids.

I posted something the other day about using panty hose or cheese cloth, whichever is cheaper. Look for some "magic thread" at the bait shop or on line and use that to tie the little bags of liver closed. You don't really have to tie it, just wrap the thread and it holds. This works! You won't lose as much bait.

Im originally from Ohio. I retired in 2014 and moved to N.W. Georgia. I spend my time fishing Allatoona and Carter's lake for whatever bites.
When not fishing I spend my time perfecting my bbq addiction.

Are you from Altoona? I served in the Navy with a really good dude from Altoona. Name was Rick Williams. Went by Willy. Imagine that. Lost contact with him long time ago. We used to play a lot of tennis and he tried to get me interested in golf. Didn't work. I don't imagine you know who I'm talking about, but hey, you never know.

I have good results with chicken kidneys. No soaking or flavoring.

I have a friend who says Texas is so big because it takes that much Texas to make one normal place.
