Gurgling might indicate a Jitterbug. Have got lots of bass on mine.

You aren't the only one. Not only do I have one of those, but a whole tackle box full of the old Heddon lures, and they still catch fish. It's all in the presentation.

The Whopper Plopper has hit the seen a few years ago and and now it’s fished by many fisherman because the are very easy to fish and are very productive. The Whopper Plopper is much easier to fish than a Buzz Bait. Plus you can stop reeling the Whopper Plopper and it may entice a bite, which is almost impossible with a Buzz Bait..

I've found them more productive when fished VERY SLOW..just saying..

Alright do this is kind of a long shot considering I’ve got nothing other than an anecdote to go off of.

The other day I was at a river down here in Arizona and I’d been there for almost 4 hours already without a single hookup.

As I’m about to leave, I guy quietly comes up to bank and casts to the same area as me. His very first cast he lands a small Largemouth, and so I continued to watch him catch fish after fish. There was a tree between us, and I don’t think he ever actually noticed me, so i didn’t think about asking him what he was using.

The only thing I remember was hearing a very consistent bubbling/popping noise, like someone blowing loud bubbles in the water as he retrieved his lure.

I’ve tried googling it and looking for video examples but I can’t find anything. I’m hoping someone here maybe knows or currently uses something similar!

When mentioned, Hula Popper brought back a great memory of me, my DAD, my Grandfather, Russian River Ca, in 1956 and my first Smallie on a hula popper. Thanks. Tight lines

Consider a prop bait top water with spinner blades at one or both ends. This is my go to top water. Initially, the props barely turn. Basically, I spin fish just as if I had a bass bug or a Wooly Bugger on the end of my fly line leader. I tease the bass.

These buzz baits are the first choice by your description the sound is very distinct second would be hitter and my third would be hula popper .
