Help identifying a lure.
Alright do this is kind of a long shot considering I’ve got nothing other than an anecdote to go off of.
The other day I was at a river down here in Arizona and I’d been there for almost 4 hours already without a single hookup.
As I’m about to leave, I guy quietly comes up to bank and casts to the same area as me. His very first cast he lands a small Largemouth, and so I continued to watch him catch fish after fish. There was a tree between us, and I don’t think he ever actually noticed me, so i didn’t think about asking him what he was using.
The only thing I remember was hearing a very consistent bubbling/popping noise, like someone blowing loud bubbles in the water as he retrieved his lure.
I’ve tried googling it and looking for video examples but I can’t find anything. I’m hoping someone here maybe knows or currently uses something similar!

Whopper plopper or buzzbait, definitely sounds like a topwater lure of some kind.

Bet my money on Hula Popper, been around for near a hundred years, very effective early morning late evening I prefer frog spot pattern
Swampman - Hula Popper was my first thought too. But, don't you know they won't catch fish anymore? Like you said, they've been around for a hundred years and the fish are wise to them. You and I are probably the only ones around here that first cast one sixty or seventy years ago!
You are correct but they faded out quite awhile now, may be new on the water these days I like them,
, Creek Chub Darter and Dalton special
No guys you ain’t,got one riding an old ugly stick right now. It can still hold it’s on.
👍 yep us Ol Timers just get better with age

Possibly a buzz bait or Whopper Plopper
The Whopper Plopper has hit the seen a few years ago and and now it’s fished by many fisherman because the are very easy to fish and are very productive. The Whopper Plopper is much easier to fish than a Buzz Bait. Plus you can stop reeling the Whopper Plopper and it may entice a bite, which is almost impossible with a Buzz Bait..
