My fish of the day.

26 inch pike. I was fishing for bass, and I found out why I wasn’t catching bass.
That, Matt, appears to be a very good reason. Congrats on that Find!!
FYI: I’ve caught many many bass, with all kinds of cuts and scars that suggest they were once hunted & attacked probably by a pike. But I see almost every outing, I see multiple pike and bass swimming and suspended side by side, none of which seemed nervous or concerned with the other. Fish are amazing, as they have the uncanny ability to know when a possible predator fish is nearby and feeding. Before moving to Montana, I spent 55 years freediving in Calif & Mexican waters, both during daylight and nighttime. Some of that time was while working as a commercial diver, spending 8 hrs underwater, 6 days a week. I mention all of the above in reference to observing fish behavior. Most of the time you will always see bait fish and smaller fish swimming with feet of fish that Will possibly feed on them at some point during the day. But I can tell from years of observations when the larger fish are about to go into a feeding mode. It’s also the time when all the bait and smaller fish also begins to change their behavior before being attacked. Mother Nature is amazing. The Hunter and Hunted can calmly swim side by side, then suddenly completely change their behavior. I can’t attest or answer to the authors opinion “why” he didn’t catch any bass, while catching a nice pike. All I’m suggesting is pike & bass swim side by side without going into an attack mode most of the time. Thanks for reading. Just my 2 cents. P.S. nice Pike

Always wanted to deep sea dive but to Dam scared of Shark's.
When going out over night night deep sea fishing to the Mexican waters and out to Catalina I would see them all the time and they would cruse along side of the boat when we were come in when the deck hand's would clean the Yellowtail and Albacore.
I hear it's a beautiful world down their.
Hope you have a great season and a safe one.
Nice read I love swimming with the fish
Isn't park lake n lake lansing the same lake?
Over the years it has been called those. I ice fished it when i was 10 yrs old with my dad, im 77 now.
They are two different lakes now.
Great work, Matt. When my youngest comes home for a visit, he is usually anxious to get over to Park Lake to catch some bass. We have pulled a fair number of bass and cats out of there, but no pike. I'm sure he would love to latch on to one like this.

You are right, thanks for getting a old man straightened out. Will have to try park out.
Great caught. I like the fight they put up. Keep fishing
