So, there I was out on my boat by myself and just starting to fish with the sun coming up. Made my first stop with not much luck, so decided to make a move. I go to pull up the trolling motor and "bam" the rope breaks. This sends me flying backward much to my surprise. I live through the fall, and like true fisherman, continue to fish the rest of the morning putting the trolling motor up and down manually.

Glad you didn't break any poles

Yep. The same thing happened to me fishing in Florida last winter. We finished fishing and then a quick fix back at the campground.

Ended up with four fish and lost two. One was a big one. Got lucky on not getting hurt or going overboard.
Thanks Tim

I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but the thread a while ago about wearing like jackets comes to mind.

I wonder if the guys out of Hampton thought about life jackets? Probably needed survival suits.

It has happened to me twice. Not a good feeling. I keep a spare rope on the boat now.

I have broken pull rope on mine many a time. Never lean back now as the first time hurt and broke a pole. I make sure now to carry a credit card to slide down the gap to release the lock should it break again. Bought a coated steel cable yesterday and see if that works better. Good luck with your repair.

Gmchief hit it right on the button. "LIFE JACKETS" at all times. Preventative maintenance also goes a long way.
