Bottomcoon that story will give you chill bumps.
Young man you got lots of time in your young life to fish dont be so hard on yourself learn some patience you will be ok till spring i promise.
That little scenario just popped into my crs diseased brain. When it comes to climate & fishing I would much rather fish bundled up than wet a hook when it's 115 degrees out & the water temp over 80 degrees. Old man sun can really suck the fun out of fishing.
When I can't go fishing I'm reading about fishing or watching fishing on TV, the computer, or YouTube.

And now you also have here.
Use this time to get better educated. There are hundreds of great videos on you tube that will give you great advice. I've been fishing for 50 years and I still watch some of these videos for new ideas.
Ice fishing, get some tips ups and learn a new way to fish

It's really cold out in northern Illinois and it's too cold to go fishing. I'm a sophomore in highschool and I either don't have time to fish, or it's just too cold. I don't know what to do anymore now that I can't fish. It's honestly making me sad. This is what I hate about winter. I've never felt this much anger and sadness about winter in my entire life. Do any of you guys have any hobbies that last you the entire season?

I normally do a lot of reading on the fish I like to catch. There migration habits, there favorite water temperature, feeding habits. Yesterday I made a bunch of rigs for my surf and bay rods. This will save me some time when I do get out. Day before that I watched videos of live shrimp. This will help when I throw in my shrimp lures. I can mimic there swimming and fleeing from danger.
I used a couple satellites to search for new spots to try, USGS, MapQuest and Google Earth. Normally I check all three, one may have better photos then the others. Sometimes you can see vegetation. There's a lot of things you can be doing.
Sorry, I make beer in the winter if for some reason I can't fish. Cleaning up your gear is a good option. I know my tackle is usually a nightmare by the end of the year. Respool/lube reels arrange lures stuff like that. Any trout fisheries around you? We usually hit the local ponds and creeks for trout because they close the rivers from November 30 till memorial day. Winter is only a few months long, before you know it you'll be back out on the water.
I never thought about not fishing in the winter. That would make me sad too. dont stop. go bend that rod
