I can't fish in the winter and I am sad.
It's really cold out in northern Illinois and it's too cold to go fishing. I'm a sophomore in highschool and I either don't have time to fish, or it's just too cold. I don't know what to do anymore now that I can't fish. It's honestly making me sad. This is what I hate about winter. I've never felt this much anger and sadness about winter in my entire life. Do any of you guys have any hobbies that last you the entire season?

Get some warmer clothes people fish in the winter all the time much further north than you

Man up. Put on some long Johns, a set of carhartts, keep moving, and keep fishing.

Steelhead are in Waukegan and in the harbors. There is always brown trout too. If you cant travel that far check the trout fall stockings. Pratt woods and i think part of busse are stocked.

Pitch a jig into a solo cup from various distances all winter. Boom, youre an expert in the spring.

Welcome to the Forum, tato. Lots of good ideas there or you could tie flies, built a rod or go out for wrestling.

Unless the parents are like my wife and does not go for that in the house much, so it just gets done when she is not home.
Now my secret is safe with everyone here.
Hey there yeepotato I would agree with flyguy that if fishing is that important to you get to know the sport a little more by getting into fly and rod making. Turn a hobby into a profit and you have the win, win going for you. Also don't let that education become second to fishing. Education first and you can make fishing time when ever you want.
Get some Hand Warmers and put 1 in each Pocket..You'll stay Warm !!!
Don't get discouraged, young man!! Work on your casting skills, watch videos, read articles, anything that will keep improving yourself. But like someone mentioned, Education is most important! Tight lines when you're able to go! Praying you the best in all your life!!
I love winter fishing more than summer, ya just gotta dress accordingly (and a propane heater helps) Either take up ice fishing or head for a river devoid of ice-it’s walleye time!!!

I've got a hard hat liner that has pouches at ear level you put hand warmers in. Keeps the ears nice anf toasty. Works great for cold day fishing

Welcome to the forum Rr.
You can put on enough to keep you warm during the winter, but can't take off enough clothes to make you cool during summer. I'm sure not many would find it fitting for you to be fishing in your birthday suit, even then still uncomfortable in the heat. Lol
