Hey grampa Joe,
This is another grampa in Battle Ground. I've fished the East fork a few times without luck. I walk at Lewisville Park regularly and always chat with the fishermen i see, but haven't heard or seen anyone pull one out in years. Both that park and Daybreak Park have fairly good access to the river for boats our bank fishing, but they've quit stocking the river so the success has plummeted. I'm sure there is someone out there that hooks one every now and then... but I think it is mostly then. Good luck my friend.

Gary B123: Thanks for the reply. Years ago I used to hook salmon just upstream from Daybreak Park. But between no stocking and the damage done by people in the river during the summer months, it isn't what it used to be. I'm heading for the mouth of the Lewis to see if I can find any action there. I just hate to give up on a river that I've fished for so many years.

Hey, Joe. Welcome to the stage. I’ve never fished the East fork but I’ve fished the North fork for a few years. Things have really declined with both salmon and Steelies. But we would drift eggs and pick up a few. But we were in a boat. Shoreline access is limited. I kinda gave up on the river and now I target Kokanee up at Merwin. Good luck in your quest. I hope you find a good spot. I know there’s access at the hatchery on the North side and access at Cedar Creek on the South. Most properties are private. Good luck… 🐟on
Hey, Joe. Welcome to the stage. I’ve never fished ... (show quote)

Hey Dave,
I'm new on here and saw your post about kokanee on Merwin. Any hints?? Have never caught one, but fished for them a few times.
Also, you ever tried for those tigers in Merwin and Mayfield?

Welcome to the stage, Gavin. No, I’ve haven’t tried to catch a tiger Muskie. Although I have seen a few caught. They were planted there to thin out the pike minnow population. For the Kokanee the only thing I use is a #4 Simon dodger in chartreuse and I make my own chartreuse wedding ring and shoepeg corn soaked in tuna juice(water) I fish usually from June through September. I troll at 1.0/1.2 mph at 50’+/-. I launch at Speelyai and fish the north side heading west or down at the damn. I do pretty well using this method. Good luck. Anything else don’t hesitate to ask… 🐟on

Yeah, we ought to get the Washington folks together to throw a line in. We don't have a boat but my wife and I have kayaks. We've been meaning to give Merwin a try to see if we can get some kokanee to bite. We usually range from the Columbia River up to Longview and points east, but to make a party of it we can travel further. Also, I enjoy the occasional ocean charter if anyone wants to hit the Pacific (the wife doesn't do the ocean).

We usually fish from shore and are open to finding new on-the-bank opportunities if anyone is interested.

Fish on my friends. 🐟 Let's get together.

I have kayaks too. The bass fishing here is great! Once the water warms to 50+ that is. I made a "kayak downrigger" with an old rod, line counter reel and a big ball weight. Works pretty good technically, but still haven't hooked a fish yet. Would love to hit the salt, it's just a matter of time and $ lol

Grizzly 17: thanks. It would be great to find some kindred spirits to throw a line in with.

Hi Joe. I am new here as well. I am in Olympia so I suspect we fish different places. I have not actually fished the Lewis but have done the Kalama. Dennis

Don't forget me. I'm up in Blaine. I like and do all kinds of fishing and water trapping as well as clam digging. Stay safe all.

Sounds like we're scattered all over the state. The fish aren't safe anywhere.
