Nice catch, wish I could the same. I live within a few miles of that area. Are you fishing from the bank? If so, is it near the bridge or upstream? Never fished there before but would like to. Thanks for the photo.

We were fishing from the bank near Davis Beach, downstream from the Walkerton Bridge; it’s roughly halfway to the bridge at West Point. There's a public pier ($6/day) near there at Rainbow Acres Campground.

Fished Mattaponi River way up by Milford 6-8 years ago. Caught some nice bass and yellow perch(surprised) at high tide. Amazed me the tide was up that far! Nice catch.

Thanks! Yes, maybe we will. Going to try some pier fishing Wednesday, hopefully.

That's good news. Where is the pier you are going to fish from? I would like to know for myself and maybe have an opportunity to meet you.

Looks like we're headed to the Gloucester Point Fishing Pier:

I hope you mean it's good cat fishing now. I will try as soon as the wind stops. Thanks, if and when I go I will post a report.

Nice channel!
I plan on fishing that area and the Rap down to the bay this year. Waiting to see when the perch move in, which should be very soon

Thanks! And yeah, I’ve heard that about the perch, too. We were just itching to get lines in the water. I figure that six keeper cats isn't bad for an afternoon in January.

Not familiar with this area, I would like to know what species of perch are you talking about? White perch or yellow perch. Could you recommend a good starting point where they might appear? I'm new in the area and I would love to get able to catch a few. What's the preferred bait?
