I made a stupid choice last night when I hit the road for an hour drive home at midnight, in the peak of the storm. I have lived here 62 of my 66 years and have never seen it rain like it did last night. I had to put my truck in 4WD because hydroplaning and the wind kept pushing me off the road. The worst fog ever has better visibility than the rain I encountered last night. 18 wheelers were pulled over and parked along I-5. The two county roads I took had random flooding across the road and I had to dodge fallen branches all over the road. Had to whisper a little thank you prayer when I pulled up in the driveway.

Just got back from two days of skiing in Lake Tahoe. Went up early Sunday morning, came home last nite.Beat the upcoming storm. Iโ€™ve been skiing this area my entire life. This trip we encountered some of the best powder skiing EVER. In all my years up there Iโ€™ve never seen so much snow on the ground and piled up along highway 50 at stateline. There were over 20 rigs getting loaded up with excess snow and hauling it away at the casinos. No where to put it. Drove up in my sons new Chevy Trail Boss 4x4. One hell of a truck! I canโ€™t imagine what another 4 to 6 ft.of expected new snow will do to the area. I can only imagine what a positive thing this will do to for our lakes and reservoirs come this spring after the snow melt. Hopefully water and lake management are planning for this. Driving home along highway 50 the American river was raging. I truly hope that all this is a positive thing. On another note, if anyone is thinking about heading up to that area Please be aware of black ice on the roads, saw quite a few of spin outs and wreaks in the the area. Please be patient and take your time!!!

I'm proud to report that in the 40 miles to I-5, I only saw one other vehicle. That's means I'm one of two dumbest people in North Cali.

Sounds like you had a good time. Powder is fun for skiing but light on water. It will take 3 years of weather like this to get reservoirs. Above worrying. They use the rivers to ship the water to the water districts. 1995 I was on my honey moon and we skied til. Fourth of July. Well we destroyed rental skis on a surface of ice and gravel.

Probably not three years but, you are right in that we have a long way to go. As of midnight Shasta and Oroville are only 30 something percent full. But they have Oroville locked down, 11,000 CFS inflow and they are only letting 200 CFS out at the dam.

I remember back in the 90s when I lived at Tahoe that the lake was bout 6+ foot down. It was below the natural rim so water couldn't even run out of Tahoe.
They were sayin that it was goin to take 4 or 5 years to refill the lake.
That year we had a heavy WET winter and it FILLED Lake Tahoe that summer.
So you never know what's goin to happen.

Thats right buddy. One thing I do know is that there are more people globally that need CLEAN water and the rest of our resources than 100 years ago so inflation and other problems are not going to go away over night. I agree that many times approximations end up inaccurate due to the previous information used to compute them.

Am I a bad person that I pray for an earthquake that breaks off SoCal and it sinks to the bottom of the ocean?

Well, it wouldn't have to "Sink to the bottom of the ocean." But it might not hurt if it opened up a chasm bout the size of the Grand Canyon and we no longer fed water down there. Just Sayin.
