Just got back from two days of skiing in Lake Tahoe. Went up early Sunday morning, came home last nite.Beat the upcoming storm. I’ve been skiing this area my entire life. This trip we encountered some of the best powder skiing EVER. In all my years up there I’ve never seen so much snow on the ground and piled up along highway 50 at stateline. There were over 20 rigs getting loaded up with excess snow and hauling it away at the casinos. No where to put it. Drove up in my sons new Chevy Trail Boss 4x4. One hell of a truck! I can’t imagine what another 4 to 6 ft.of expected new snow will do to the area. I can only imagine what a positive thing this will do to for our lakes and reservoirs come this spring after the snow melt. Hopefully water and lake management are planning for this. Driving home along highway 50 the American river was raging. I truly hope that all this is a positive thing. On another note, if anyone is thinking about heading up to that area Please be aware of black ice on the roads, saw quite a few of spin outs and wreaks in the the area. Please be patient and take your time!!!

Hey Rich. I haven't been able to reach my neighbor up there so I might be headed up there EARLY Friday in the wee hours. Do snow removal Friday and Saturday morning if need to. Then leave Saturday afternoon to come back to Windsor.
Thanks for the report. Glad you had a great time and made it back home safe and sound.

Just read about one of the worst storms to ever hit around San Francisco. They are evacuating some areas for fear of more mudslides. Hope all you CA guys are safe!!

Wellll, it is rather wet. However, lets not complain TOOO much. We desperately need the rain even if it is all coming in at once it seems.
The lakes are startin to regain some of the water they've lost over the last few years.
Hey Nor Cal. Skied at Squaw Valley the last day of the season two years ago. As we were leaving we stopped at the pro shop. Saw a pair of Vokel fat power skis in the demo rack. New with Marker bindings they were 12 hundred new. Manager said I could have them for 6 hundred. I thought that was a little high. We were the only ones in the shop. As he was about lock up I told him I’ll give him $350 or he can haul them home. He bit. One of my best catches ever! Really didn’t ski on them much last season due to the lack of powder, stayed on my shorties. Wow what a pleasure finally to finally enjoy them in the powder!!! Tips up, butt back!!!

Yeah that house would have been a good food source.

I made a stupid choice last night when I hit the road for an hour drive home at midnight, in the peak of the storm. I have lived here 62 of my 66 years and have never seen it rain like it did last night. I had to put my truck in 4WD because hydroplaning and the wind kept pushing me off the road. The worst fog ever has better visibility than the rain I encountered last night. 18 wheelers were pulled over and parked along I-5. The two county roads I took had random flooding across the road and I had to dodge fallen branches all over the road. Had to whisper a little thank you prayer when I pulled up in the driveway.

I used to enjoy snow skiing in my twenties as a young and crazy guy. Deep powder is nice if you wreck as long as your bindings are set real tight. It's a long walk in deep powder.
