OJ, just food for thought. If a politicians is doing something for votes, then he/she is doing what many people want to get that vote. That means in reality, he/she is doing their job to represent the voting majority of the people. It looks to me like politicians are just becoming the scapegoat of a society we, the current minority do not agree with. That is how the constitution works. If we are going to fix it, we all must step up, and work within the constitution, to change the majority opinion. Then the politicians will respond to the changed majority. That is how our constitution works. The system is not broken. The people are broken. Like I said, just something to ponder.

the problem is there is no clear majority mandate for either party and often the actions being taken are only for the benefit or on behalf of a small but influential small group that they just want to buy their support knowing the majority of Americans are not for it.

True, but the small influential groups would not be an issue if most Americans really cared. The national vote count is pitiful. Remember, a no vote is a vote for the status quo, or like I said, the people are broken. The cote of society is selfish, disrespectful and totally self centered The concept of compromise is not just lost in congress, but also in the main corridors of society. The decay became the accepted norm with my generation in the second half of the 60's and was passed onto the next two generations of sybalings. Let us hope the youngest of our grandkids see the light before the complete collapse of our democratic republic. Of course, that is not likely as kids usually learn their morals and respect from imitating their parents. The concept of honor and respect is now the backbone of so few, that only a loss of true freedom with responsibility is likely to come about with total collapse and loss of both. Oh well, I will likely be dead by then, so all I can do now is try to influence my grandchildren.

again you are right and good creed. compromise means nobody gets everything they want but they get what they agree on. To bad we really don't have a centrist party any more one that is not controlled by the far right or the far left. There is a lot that we could get done as a nation if we just did the things the vast majority agreed on and didn't waist time, and resources on those things most don't agree with. If I could change how things were done in both houses of congress I would first require all bills to be single subject no add ons that are not part of the main bill. Also every member would have to read the entire bill before they could vote on it and it would have to be read in its entirety in each house before the vote. which would keep the bills smaller and easier to understand, and finally all bills have to pass with a super majority like 60% to assure it represents most of the people. None of these would require a constitutional change but could be enacted by each the house and the senate.

The add on bills ARE a disaster. They add nonsensical bills to a bill that has heart and makes sense. What stands in the way of change are two things a lack of truth and fear. How can we argue ( even politically) if we don’t know what the truth is? I believe the truth is masked intentionally……tell them what they want to hear….and theRE IS too much fear for people to say anything. Truth is-big brother is watching! I saw a (non-sensical?) bumper sticker that said all birds are government drones. What scares me is (some) of the wacky conspiracy theories of the old men years ago are todays truths.
