Several years back. Was out with FIL and BIL in a Lady of the Lakes, fiberglass, with a 6.5hp Johnson. Got caught in a rain shower. Rather than head back to the landing, we went across the lake. As we we called it a day, and we’re heading back.FIL thought it was a good idea to pull the plug to suck the water we accumulated out of the boat. He had hooked the plug on his little finger. A twig had made its way to the drain hole so pops grabbed it flung it over the side, along with the plug!! Had that Johnson humming and we had to scramble to get the boat out of the water before it took on to much more! It was waaay to much work as none of us had any money for a trailer so we had to lift it into the back of his pickup!

Had my boat serviced once and they removed plug and left it out. I didn't think to check it as I very seldom pill it. My grandson and I were fishing a tournament that day and after I got out on the lake a ways, he asked me if there was supposed to be water on the floor. Luckily, I wasn't far from the dock so was able to start up motor and return to dock. Got the truck and trailer and loaded up so I could drain, 30 minutes later we were fishing........
Moral to the story, Always have a check list and go over it yourself before you leave home, then check it again at the ramp.
I'm easily embarassed and this helps. 😜🤣😊

In my high school days, Dad had me tow the boat to the marina to launch it and put it in a slip he'd rented. I launched the boat and parked the car. Must have not been moving too fast, because when I got to the dock the boat had 6 or 8 inches of water in it. PRIORITY ONE: DON"T LET DAD FIND OUT! I probably should have pulled it back out on the trailer to drain, but I elected to run it down the river and drain it that way. Since then, I've had a pretty clear idea about how heavy water is! It took a LOOONG time to get it up on plane, and it seemed to me that it took a LOT longer for the water to run back out than it did to get in. Time is relative, isn't it? Anyway, all's well that ends well. Dad never found out, and I learned a lot.

Sometimes you have to watch out for your "Buddys " at the launch ramp.

Now that's just wrong. That plug may end up in a different transom 👍🤣

At least he won't be taking on water when he gets thrown over the side.

I think I told the story about when I was 15 or so in Oklahoma, me and my two brothers, and another guy my age and his two brothers "borrowed" an old aluminum rowboat (with no oars) to get back across Lake Altus so we didn't have to walk back miles around it...got halfway across and it was sinking, we'd been bailing water but couldn't keep up. The younger ones were freaked about letting their shoes go so they didn't drown, and getting in trouble

I thought we were going to lose brothers that day, the two oldest of us decided we were not going back if they couldn't make it...glad we didn't have to test that pact. We drew on reserves helping our little brothers we did not know we had.

When I told my mom how close that was and what I had decided, she was crying as she told me to never doubt that if my brothers had died she would not want to have to lose me too.

Water is no joke, it can and will kill you.

One time forgot the plug on my old Arkansas Traveler. Just run her fast and the speed and front up in the air sucked the water out. Anybody else ever done it like that?

If I ship water over the gunwale of my 14 foot 'tin' boat I pull the plug and go faster until the onboard water is out.

D25... if it was me I wouldn't have been embarrassed. I'd of said I needed a bigger casting deck for the day.
