I think that if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. Her stupid prize was a 9 year prison sentence and she won it through her own stupidity.

I do believe that the Russians made her sentence more harsh for the specific purpose of having stronger negotiation power for a trade for bout. But she still put herself in that position.

I don’t believe we should have exchanged prisoners for Private Bergdahl either.

Prisoner exchanges just make it more dangerous for other Americans, so as a general rule, I am against it.

There is also another American prisoner in Russia. He was a teacher to children of employees of the US Embassy. Got caught with medical marijuana at the airport and sentenced to 14 years. His name is Marc Fogel. He also made poor choices, but nobody is talking about him. Here is a link to that story.

I don't like the Idea of trading a criminal for an arm's dealer who traded with terrorist. But let's not change the facts. Russia was not going to trade for Whelan, with or without Brittany's involvement. It was not an either or situation. We, as individual citizens have no way of knowing what has or is being done to get Whelan out. The trade for Whelan may have been on the table and rejected for years by Russia. Again, let's be honest. None of us know if Whelan is a spy or not. If he is, our government is not going to admit it. The whole thing stinks, but let's not further exasperate the situation with innuendos and presumed facts that can not either be confirmed or denied.
The truth be told, both the liberals and the conservatives have enough canon fodder that neither side needs to create or spin the truth. In my personal opinion, is not a case of who we traded for, but what we will do to get a U.S American home, any U.S. American. We have both openly admitted we will negotiation with traitors, and declared all U.S. Americans in foreign countries, fair game for kidnapping and being held for ransom plots both at the civilian and state level. MY final note on this: Weather in a foreign country or the U.S., "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime" and remember, if you go to another country, you are subject to the laws and penalties of that country. Your constitutional right go out the window. If that country has a corrupt legal system, you are accepting that system when you step across the border. Personally, if it weren't that way, I would be basking in the Baha sun drinking survasa and surf fishing from November until April.
