What an awful experience and I am so sorry it happened to you Grizz. Things have changed a great deal over the years. Most everyone are down to earth and not at all wealthy. Many of the people there are vacationers and not the locals. Although some locals are nasty to visitors which is upsetting to the rest of us. Finding a place to stay is tough and has unfortunately become very pricey.

Gonna I started going there late 80's brother it was laid back n the people was so friendly. I'll never understand why people that say that luv a place so much then go there n mess it up. It's goes on at too many places. If I ever get down that way I'll give you a shout. Have a nice evening 👍

Hi all
Well it took a day or two to work out the kinks (in me not the gear). But I had a nice run with Blues and another with flounder. Took getting up at 5:30 am and out on the beach about a half hour before sunrise on a rising tide but it was only me and a few sunrise runners. Nice wave sets after Fiona, and watching swimmers during the day helped me spot the troughs between sand bars, and the bait fish came in right on time. So for an hour or so each morning the past two mornings has been great fishing. It’s pretty much cast and fish on. As quickly as it begins it ends as soon as the bait fish leave. But by then I am ready for a second cup of coffee and breakfast so I head back to the beach house, sit on the deck with coffee and breakfast and watch the sea and seashore come to life. So yeah it’s changed a lot in 30 years but if you time it right it is still one of the nicest places on earth. Just avoid the piers and get your feet wet if you can.LOL

I would love to hear from you. Hopefully I could begin to restore the good feelings about this area to you once again. It is a shame what some people are trying to turn it into. At one time it was all family friendly of just regular folks. There is still free places to fish that are good and have free parking and bathrooms. These are very visitor friendly. Unfortunately the growth continues and crowds are large. This year though they report lower visitor numbers. Perhaps a sign of stepping on too many toes. Plus the fishing is not as great as it once was, perhaps it has been over fished. There is a beautiful, large empty lot full of these old Live Oaks that will soon be cleared off and a big 24 hour gas station and store will be built. This is going to be pretty much practically in my front yard. It is so depressing, ending the buffering of the very busy Highway 158.

Although I am certainly a tourist my life has been that of a rolling stone since childhood so home has always been wherever I am at the moment. As such I try to treat everyone with respect regardless of who they are because whoever they are at that moment they are to me my neighbors. In addition whatever place I am in is my neighborhood if only temporarily and so I respect that environment as well at the very least to ensure I leave no trace of having been there. So whatever I catch I release, whatever I brought goes when I go. It’s not that I am better than anyone else; just maybe different. Over the years I have seen many places change, unfortunately not for the better in most cases, and that saddens me greatly because it means that we as a species despite being or at least considering ourselves to be the most intelligent thing on this planet are simply destroying it because what we seem to want be it clean air, water, food, housing, transportation …and the manner we have chosen to provide it simply aren’t sustainable by this planet. Maybe if we had much longer lifespans and far fewer offspring we would see things differently but we don’t. So while I hope that somehow we can evolve in time I also fear we may not. That being the case, I see signs that reflect both that hope and fear wherever I go. Will it be too little too late? I will never know given my age but I live my life now as I have always lived it to either leave no trace or the environment a little better than I found it, and enjoy the moment wherever I am at and whomever I am with. I gently try to pass that on to whomever I am with. That is all one can really do. As for those who simply live their lives as if they were the most important thing on the planet I simply pray they don’t have kids and very short lifespans! LOL

When I'd head out she'd tell me where her husband n boys was fishing then I'd go join them. Then it happened. Got there n knew nobody. Couldn't understand them n not friendly. Each yr it got bigger n more unfriendly. Lately it's been calling me. I may get now next yr. Have a nice evening brother 👍

MM 2. I also fear things will never change. Too much me first. I've met many very nice locals hear since yesterday. Today at breakfast Fred n I listened to 3 older guys argue about who was being teamed with who to play golf . We got up to head out. They looked at us n Fred said you gentlemen have a nice day. They acted like he asked then for a handout. I sure hope it changes for my grandsons 👍👍

Thank you Grizz, I appreciate that. I have high hopes the now generation will learn to be good American citizens. Our leaders and educators don't help with all their anger and division of us and them. We are all on the same team and owe respect and a caring heart for all especially to those that have done no harm to ourselves. Kindness is free, easy and can be contagious.

Yea people are rude. I went to cat walk on Bonner Bridge and my parents were bluefishing and this boat was running over lines. A few of us put a bunch of sinkers on and started nailing them. Well they didnt stay long.

Oh I have witnessed that too and used your same tactic to run them off. There is a new bridge there now. They left a section on the south side and I hope this lack of respect has lost it's way. It only takes a few to tarnish so many. If you come back I surely hope it is a far better experience and the dang fish are biting.
