I do give a rip,in fact Ive reeled lines in and chased down idiots on PWC and had lengthy discussion on laws, safety and behavior as well as recommending a boater safety course. I'm a respectful , taxpaying outdoorsman who enjoys fishing. You bet wrong when you said im one to go out of my way to throw a wake.If you would have placed your bet on me getting the last laugh if ever being taken advantage of,you would have won a pot of gold. Let that digest

Lights are not required in all states. They would be long gone before any law enforcement got there. Some of the idiots drowned last year.

Ray you are most likely correct concerning lights and state requirements and not knowing what state you are from since that is where your beef is originating, I can not accept or deny your statement.

Boaters & yakers need common sense to prevail when one is in conditions such as darkness to be prepared whether or not there is a law. Just like the drowning you bring up. I don't believe that there is a state that would not require a vest or some sort of floatation device.

Bottom line is to be knowledgeable with others. A yaker is not going to catch up to a boat and tell him about an infraction but, sure can try to wave him down. But a boater can easily mention to a yaker the perils of not being seen.

In respect to law enforcement I will give you that one. However if there is a sticker on that craft it just takes a phone call and my neighbor will testify to the fact that the law will come calling. Long story not worth mentioning the details.

For a minute I would like to raise that gavel before you slam a fellow yaker there Chic. No one is crying nor is this the children section. Name calling isn't quite the respect our fellow brothers and sisters deserve.

From what I read you are a boater and you so bravely have chase offenders down and have given your piece of mind to them and for that I applaud you. However you do not mention that you have been in a kayak and come near being swamped by faster moving craft. Until you have been in our shoes please do not tell us what is and what is not worth complaining about. Unfortunately Our complaints do fall on deaf ears because of the lack of respect, but with hope and consistency we keep trying that someone in power will look out for the little guy.

We yakers pay our dues just like you boaters, its just because you pay more doesn't give boaters the right of way. I think we can agree on some maritime rules here.

But the same people on this thread will offer help.

Because that is how they are.

Good people.

I have to hand it to the yakers here and other places where they launch from the beach and through the surf and paddle about a mile out to fish with the other power boats in the kelp beds.
I have friends who are yakers and float tube fisheromen, their biggest complaints are from jet skiers and power boats going by them and throw wakes instead of slowing down.
I believe that the majority of bad jet skiers are the ones that rent them and don't really think about it, here in SD anyway. Maybe they hug the shore in the big bay because going out father might be intimidating for them. Lots of boat traffic out there. Lots of Navy ship traffic at times, nothing like an aircraft carrier coming into port while you're out there with them.
We have two large bays here in SD. One of the bays has an area just for jet skies and water skiers. There are even jump ramps for the water skiers.
If people would just use common sense it would be a lot better.

San Diego is bad, but not as bad as Los Angeles.

Saw a fisherman shoot a hole in a power boat on the wolf river in Wisconsin, bet that guy will never swamp another boat.

Though I appreciate the outpouring of disgust from this angling community towards the water motorsports group, let's look at both sides. Yes there are rude water skiers out there. There are also rude fishermen who throw weighted hooked lines at jet skiers, which is not only rude, but is also assault. I have recently spoken with a partnership interested in sustainable recreation in the Eastern Sierra. The answer to accommodating the various sports enthusiasts while not isolating them or others is complex.
Anglers vs. jet skiers. Cyclists vs. hikers. Tenters vs. RVers. Hunters vs. just about everybody. The list goes on. Even in our own sport there is dissention. Boaters who cross lines with shore anglers or trollers interrupting still fisherman. Catch and release vs. bait and take.
The problem is we are all wanting to use the same real estate at the same time, and feel our endeavors are sacred.
Graywulff chooses to visit waters that are no wake. Here's a few other solutions. Hike further back where the motorized crowd can't navigate. Join or start a fishing club in your area (there's strength in numbers) and lobby with the water's powers to create no wake zones or limit the times a powerboat can be on the water. Report violators to the rangers at the gate. I am sure you can think of other opportunities. Just remember. Everybody has a right to recreate at your beloved lake in their own manner.

Bottom line here folks is to show some sense and respect for everyone.
If you're a jet skier don't buzz people in small boats or in a float tube or fishing from shore. Fishermen don't throw weights at them.
We're lucky here in SD, if someone is doing crazy stuff here we can call the Harbor Police and a patrol boat will show up.
You get the respect that you deserve.

I do have an inexpensive yak and I also have a pair of chest waders. I use all from time to time for the sport of fishing. No i've never had my yak swamped but i have had water from a PWC enter my boat which provoked me to chase and catch an idiot. To me, you cant escape an idiot. They are the ones causing problems and have no regard for others, about the same the idiots who throw weight and treble hooks. That's a quick way to get a kicked a$$,shot, taken to jail or all of the above. As mentioned above, common sense seems to be in short supply now a days, and its not fair to throw all in the same pot.
