Had the opportunity to fish with Fishandrod yesterday in S.D. Bay. Had a great day and we caught 14 spotted sea bass. Nothing big but it was my first of many for that species. Turns out we have a lot in common and are actually the same age. Great to have a new fishing buddy and we will be doing it again.
Thanks again for taking me out Larry.
Sounds like a great day OBG, fishing and a new buddy!
Fun Stuff Garey. Actually, fishing for those mean little guys was one of my specialties for 50 years before moving yo the northwest. It’s a very slow to grow fish, so please release. It’s an open water spawning fish that primarily lives in those marinas & harbors from Santa Barbara south into Mexico. Thus, because of the general pollution in those harbors, unfortunately their overall numbers are diminishing. But ounce for ounce, just a tough fish. Getting bit is all about tidal movements.
Oh, they are actually called Spotted Bay Bass
Priceless stuff. Looks like you had a great day.
hmm, I've always called those fish Spotted Bay Bass .... not that big, usually, but fight and HIT really hard .... fun to catch ..... good job .....

If you Google the fish it’s actually a spotted sand bass aka spotted bay bass. I’ve always called them spotties or spotted bay bass. There is also a barred sand bass in the bay and the ocean. The spotties are caught better on a big tide the best is incoming tide. Hopefully next time out with Garey it will be a better tide, 14 fish for 2 people is a very low count. The wind on the bay after 11 has been the worst ever for the last few years and cut down our time on the water in my 15 ft aluminum deep V boat. My friend who taught me how to fish the bay 8 years ago when we fish 40+ is the normal with the good tide. Larry W. aka Fishandrods.
