Fish a new lake today, one of multiple lakes in the Thompson chain of lakes. Beautiful little lake, crystal clear and only one fishing except for someone trolling out deep for Kokanee & trout. Managed about 10 fish, all really healthy looking largemouth (must be that protein diet of trout & salmon 😁). Nothing huge, but all 3-4 lb fish. Half on Chatterbait, rest on drop shot. Lost a couple of chatterbaits to big pikes 😡. Nice lake and I’ll be back soon to explore more of it. All fish released to fight another day. Enjoy pics

JB, your skill is becoming legendary. I have never heard of anyone fishing a chatterbait out of the box. Any advise on how to dress it and fish it? Any gear photos would help. Congratulations, you earned these kind of questions from us less experienced followers.

Drop shot is by far the main stay of getting bit for me… not as exciting as getting stopped on a moving bait, but by far the most productive. Use the Berkley Max scent flat worm. I personally like the brown color (goby) if there’s any clouds overhead, and use the pumpkin green if sunny. They just get bit 👍

Agree on the max scent flat worm--Berkley came up with a winner on that one. Great to use on ned rigs and shaky heads as well!

Wow JB134, you really got my attention! Beautiful Bass! I am headed to Kalispell Sunday for some brotherly home renovation help AND some fishing. Neither of us have fished Montana, so this looks like a great place to start!!

Consider Echo Lake. Close and good fishing

Well, there’s thousands of more qualified anglers to address your question, and many on this board. Personally, I like the Z Man Jackhammer Chatterbait… they have a lot of cool colors that will work. As for the trailer, I really like the Yamamoto Zack baits…My favorite being the smallmouth color. I also trim the skirt to the back edge of the hook, giving that swimbait a better movement in the water. For me, just a slow steady retrieve works best. If I bump anything, I stop for a brief second, followed by a quick twitch and continue my slow wind. I’m sure many on here with even better success can give you more tips. Hope this answers your question

No secrets from you… I was on Middle Thompson Lake. I originally intended to use the trolling motor to connect to Lower Thompson, but just had too much fun trying to dial something in… after that, I will explore the 3 small lakes that make up the Upper Thompson. So many lakes, so little time. Hahaha.
