A lot of times people don’t file a claim for whatever reason but later on in life that problem or situations gets worse then it’s not to late to file as long as you have it on record. It’s not so much as the VA it’s the people who work there. Most of the we give up but we need to stay in the fight. I don’t know a lot but I am pretty up to date and have friends who I served with that’s in the system who helps me a lot and I pass that information on. I am 100% disable unable to work. Even if you served and have an honorable discharge you should get in the system. You can use it as a back up insurance if nothing else. You earned it so use it. I agree it’s hard and functioning is almost out of the question sometimes but once you are in the system you are good. Point is just don’t give up.

I never give up Troy. I have a great advocate who lives in Oregon. He’s a disabled American veteran and super nice guy. He’s been trying to help me with things and he’s a great resource. I served my country, I’m an honorably discharged American veteran and I have zero issues with those of us that served our country and are receiving the disability they earned. What really frosted my gizzard is when I got hurt in Oregon and I was refused medical attention for two reasons. Granted that was in 2009 and the military was losing credibility under that administration but the first reason was because I was not registered with the state of Oregon. The second reason really sent me over the top and made me decide to get a good advocate and do some research. That second reason was that I was not an undocumented illegal immigrant. Yup, you heard me right and it wasn’t a typo. Three people will tell you I’m lying but one lives in California and the other two are from Oregon and have never served our country. All three drawing a disability check. Undocumented , illegal, immigrants from the south could go to the, local, VA outpatient clinic and receive free medical care on their first visit. No questions asked. If the same undocumented individual went in a SECOND time they had to prove they were connected to the U.S. military in order to receive medical attention. That’s a simple form they can get from anyone and most do. The waiting room was full of them. Not a one could speak a word of English. When I contacted the VA headquarters in Portland they told me the same thing. “Get registered with the state or we can’t help you”. They didn’t want to discuss the illegal issue with me🤨. “That’s not for us to talk about” is what they told me. I’m not about to give up on it. I served, I earned the coverage and I may die before I get a chance to use it again but I’ll keep after it. Prior to moving to Oregon I had no trouble at all going to a VA medical center in Wyoming. Just walked right in and got any attention I needed.

You missed it Bob. You’re the one looking for sympathy not me. I don’t need to tell everyone I’ve lost a family member all the time. Have you ever heard me tell about losing family members to war? Nope. I have just like thousands of other people but we don’t ask for recognition or sympathy for it. Your loss was devastating and my salute will, forever, be present for your brother. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. He, along with hundreds of thousands of other soldiers are the reasons we can even be here having this conversation. For you to think, and say all the time, that You are the one that had a bad situation, I’m sure, makes you feel better but there are many of us in your shoes. I’m not going to go into details because I don’t feel the need to have everyone give me a pat on the back and tell me how sorry they are for my loss. MANY men and women have given all for our country. Hundreds of thousands of them and I salute them all. I was fortunate to return with nothing more than a slight limp and I don’t need to, constantly, remind everyone about it.
I wasn’t asking you to prove anything to me or anyone else. I was, genuinely, interested in learning about your injury and how it came to be. There were no active war zones when we were in the military so I was just curious. I told you about mine but, honestly, expected the reply I got. I should have know better. I try to have a civil conversation with you and you fire back with negativity followed by folded, praying hands. Those two thing shouldn’t go together.
Enjoy the game😉🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Stating facts and complaining are two different things in case you were wondering. Calling me names is not helping your reputation a whole lot. I guess you haven’t noticed the other posts people have made on this, very, thread about conflicts with the VA. 🤷‍♂️. I’m happy that you get a disability check and I’m happy I can pitch in and help pay that for you. You shouldn’t snap at the hand that feeds you. My tax dollars are going in your pocket. Yours are not going in mine.😉😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Not as much as you do Bob.i don’t “God Bless” people while stabbing them in the back. Those who are hiding things always have the reply “I don’t need to prove anything to you or anyone else”😉I’m very happy in my skin and I’m happy to “prove” anything to anyone who asks because I can. Aren’t you missing the game? Please go enjoy it with your family. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍

You are exactly right Troy, I never filed a claim until I was 53 , I'm a Proud Man 1st, and everything that follows so be it, My Big Brother Raymond Gave his Life in Viet Nam, for me to constantly have to repeat that to naysayers is annoying .I'm 68 years old, my Brother would have been 71,,, I owe that 1 person nothing..

Nobody asked you to keep repeating. Just don’t. We believed you the first time. Take some of your own stress away and leave it be.

Seemingly it’s very different in each State but VA is VA they are all covered under the same standards but it’s the people who work there that needs to be trained. More importantly they need to learn to respect people in general. Just be nice and professional. In a world like today that department gets a zero overall. It doesn’t matter what branch you served in because it’s a team effort. Nothing in this world is free so you have to work . It’s the same with the VA although it’s sad you have to fight. With us it’s the knowledge and not passing it on. Most don’t know zero% is a rating. If you have zero% and whatever that problem is you file a claim and the VA goes back and pay you from the time it was file no matter how far back. Then there is CRSC (Combat Related Special Compensation) This is if you were hurt during combat. Also if you have sleep problems and have a Cpap machine that is automatically 50%. Each VA Center has a book which is free you can just walk in and pick it up. FREE this book is updated every year. Our problems are we don’t use what we have or have knowledge of what we have already earned. That DD214 is your ticket We have to share information. Most doesn’t know that if you are a disabled vet you can get a cut on your property tax. Again it’s not the VA if we don’t research and trust me they will never contact you to see if you need help. Bottom line is don’t give up. If we use what we have earn and share information we will win. I found some veterans disc the VA because they got a bad taste over something or they were discharged dishonorable so if that be the case then you did it to yourself I support the VA and I am proud of my service to our Nation. I don’t agree with all they do but you know not everyone agrees with me. Our part is to support and defend our country

I have my DD214 in a very safe spot and have referenced it many times. I also carry a U.S. military medical card I got in Wyoming that’s “supposed” to be recognized in any United States Veteran’s Administration facility. I guess those rules all went out the window when our administrations decided the constitution was no longer needed and let, individual, states decide whether they wanted to abide by federal law or not.
