I was never in the military but I have a lot of respect for our service people. I remember how long it took to acknowledge agent orange causing a lot of illness for our veterans. Now I can’t believe that politicians have voted against giving help to veterans were affected by the the burn pits. Playing politics with our veterans is wrong.

I have a nephew that was around those burn pits. I certainly would want any help he could get. The news I heard if you can believe anything these days: the bill to support vets was loaded down with a lot of other junk. If that’s true it is the same issue that seems to bog down a lot of well intentioned legislation.

What I heard was that house changed some words. Don’t know if it is true or not. Hard to believe anything anymore.

Exactly, they need to simplify legislation to a single issue. Publish so we can read it. Allow time for us to respond to OUR representatives. Then vote. I can’t read a 2000 page health care bill. I tried. They didn’t.

It was a total referring to this and that. You would need 20 copies open to comprehend.

The bill was passed here’s what’s in it for veterans

What’s the PACT Act and how will it affect my VA benefits and care?

The PACT Act is perhaps the largest health care and benefit expansion in VA history. The full name of the law is The Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.

The PACT Act will bring these changes:

Expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War, and post-9/11 eras
Adds more than 20 new presumptive conditions for burn pits and other toxic exposures
Adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation
Requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA health care
Helps us improve research, staff education, and treatment related to toxic exposures
If you’re a Veteran or survivor, you can file claims now to apply for PACT Act-related benefits.

Let’s hope that applies to every state. In Oregon you have to follow Oregon rule for VA procedures. It’s much different in Wyoming than it is in Oregon. The VA is federal government so I’m not holding my breath for any of it to be what they say it’s going to be. 🤞

No. I really can’t explain that. I was injured while working in Oregon. Being an honorably discharged military veteran I went to the local VA out patient clinic in Bend Oregon. They told me I had to be registered with the state of Oregon to access my military medical benefits. When I asked them why I was told “here in Oregon you follow Oregon rule for medical care through the VA”. When I asked “isn’t the VA federal?” They said “not here it’s not. You need to go to Portland and get your name on the list or just go to the local ER”. They wouldn’t treat me. I struggled through it myself and was ok after a few weeks. In Wyoming I was never asked that. They just treated me for anything I needed.

That is crazy. I would contact my Congress/file a congressional because no matter where you are you should be able to use the VA. I do agree the VA is so mixed up and no matter where or who you are you have earned this right. I didn’t think any State could change federal laws especially considering Military.

Oregon is a rather unique state compared to any other state I’ve ever been in. I don’t have that problem here in Idaho. It’s just like Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Alaska here. When I first moved here I contacted the VA and asked if I had to be registered with the state of Idaho to receive military benefits through the VA. The first thing they said was “No. why would you ask that?” So I told them. They said “That’s Oregon for ya”🙄

True and I understand what you are saying but somehow it’s not the VA it’s the people who work there that don’t know the system nor care they are only there for the pay and benefits. If they stay for 20 years they get the same benefits and it’s a shame

That’s it in a nutshell. None of the people working in the VA clinics are veterans and most of them are just there because they get 14 paid holidays a year, sick leave, easy hours, an easy paycheck with benefits and a retirement. They couldn’t care less about us veterans.

why do they always have to attach something to a bill everyone agrees with something that is unrelated and torpedoes the whole bill? how about a clean bill only dealing with helping those who are suffering as a result of serving our country. the fact that they don't shows they really aren't concerned about helping vets just using them as bargaining chips. shame on them

So True đź‘Ť
You hit the nail on the head.
