Bakerman,

Thank you for the useful information. I will definitely be taking my nephew and try to get him into fishing. I just don’t want him to grow up knowing how much the outdoors has to offer and what we need to do to protect our recreational and relaxing things it has to offer.

Thank you, Sir. I know the area you are mentioning and will get him out there to find out how much fun fishing is whether you catch anything or not.

St Louis ponds are okay, I fished them a few times every year, although trout stocking has stopped because the water gets too warm in the summertime. There are bass and bluegill, lots of little bitty bluegills and there are some rather large channel catfish. About 4 years ago I landed in 11 lb channel cat. There are six large ponds with walking paths between them and are. A.D.A accessible

If you don't mind the drive, Detroit lake can be fantastic. For Bank fishermen there's nothing better than fishing off of the Detroit dam and using little cocktail shrimp for bait. Best between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. for the bite. This is my go-to spot when I take my grandchildren and want to guarantee they catch something

YUP.

Shrimp Cocktail is Sand shrimp or Crayfish and Salmon Roe on the proper hook size. It is a very effective bait rig on Sliding Bobber set up. Your going to want the Shrimp Cocktail to be Suspended in the Water or Drifting the bottom if there is a current.

Thank you, Papabear,

I really appreciate the help. My nephew is going through some rough times bc of his biological father who was never and isn’t a Dad. I’m not trying to take his place, but just want to be an adult male who he can depend on.

I used to take the grandkids up there and do just that. They had a blast. There was a guy up there using those fake, light brown, rubber worms and he was catching fish ever cast. We tried them and they worked so that’s what we used when we went up there. The kids had a great time reeling those fish up to the dam out of the water. Lots of em. Great place to go👍

That sounds perfect for what I want to do. I don’t mind the drive and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind seeing the damn and of course stopping on the way home for a burger and shake. Thank you again.

I am not familiar with any lakes or ponds near McMinnville. I am looking to take my nephew who I want to take fishing who is 13 years old. His father never did anything with him other than play video games. His father left his family for another woman when he was about nine. He’s a great kid and needs an adult male to take him and do things with him. He would love to try fishing as his father never would do anything outdoors. Since I’m retired I’d like to teach him about anything outdoors, starting with fishing. Anybody know where I can take him close by to start? I appreciate any suggestions.

Kokanee and Trout. There are also groups on FBook if you have an account for local area instant Information. They are subcategories of the main FBook Software you can join. They have Moderators and Admins. Usually you have to agree to be civil to join but some will review your request to join. Then you will see local information much similar to FSTAGE. Fishingstage is Global so info may not be current but all in all more information will always assist in success rate when fishing.

Detroit has a bunch of Kokanee and Rainbow Trout. Fresh planters are fun to learn the techniques but the holdovers ( fish that have been in the water or local rivers for a winter or several winters ) will be bigger and the meat you harvest will usually have a darker red color due to eating natural and live food.
