I am not familiar with any lakes or ponds near McMinnville. I am looking to take my nephew who I want to take fishing who is 13 years old. His father never did anything with him other than play video games. His father left his family for another woman when he was about nine. He’s a great kid and needs an adult male to take him and do things with him. He would love to try fishing as his father never would do anything outdoors. Since I’m retired I’d like to teach him about anything outdoors, starting with fishing. Anybody know where I can take him close by to start? I appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you, Sir. After being away for 20+ years from Oregon while serving in the military, I found much has changed and places disappeared. But, I will find a place to take my nephew who hates to see his father who just gets in his face and scream and yells.

Call Dockside Charters in Depoe Bay. Fishing is currently really good. Capt. James Pederson just sent me a message a few days ago. It is salt water fishing. You will really enjoy yourselves. It will hopefully be an experience that gets your young buddy HOOKED. There is some fresh water around but when the Salt is that close it is worth the drive and the cost.

Good Luck. I think your doing something much better than his father did. Playing video games constantly and never learning how to work hard and play hard outside is making a bunch of youngsters into Hermits.

Thanks again, Jeremy. I love being at sea. Spent over 20 years as a Sailor and nothing smells better than an ocean breeze. I always loved being in rough weather bc I sleep like a baby at night. I’ve driven whale boats to aircraft carriers. The most favorite was at the helm of a Battleship.

Thats the GOOD STUFF if you know what mean. There was movie about NASA guys but I would have more pleasure operating a BATTLESHIP. Thumbs UP. Call me sometime we need to get together. I have a Campout on President's Day you would be quite welcome at. A few generations of Sailors. Family. I look forward to meeting you. I can get you and junior on the pond when your ready.

There are some good fishing ponds south of McMinnville, on the old army/navy base near Albany OR over on 99 cant think of the name just now, Adair? Check it out. East of you would be some streams and lakes also. Good luck and tight lines.

I live in the local area, your best bet is St. Louis Ponds close to to Woodburn Oregon. They are about 35 mins from McMinnville. I believe there are 4 good sized ponds, well maintained by the county. You can fish for trout and panfish. Great place for a beginner and easy fishing.
