It got into high 90’s overnight Cam. Never seen anything like it. The water got warm quick, now it’s hot. Anyone going out in a boat can’t be on the water but about three hours and that plus the high gas prices don’t make it worth the trip. It’s not like in the north with close lakes from other states and in their own state. I’m jealous. I’ll admit it. I was going to try out Friendswood lake but it was hot and steamy when I woke up at 0530 this morning.

Yeah these shallow water lakes close to us got too hot and since we have 80 degree nights theres no cool down, your right about the deeper lakes nearest are Conroe and Livingston, most of the rest are 3+ hours away

That could be a problem, sorry buddy.

I’m used to it Fred. I’ve caught tons of salt and fresh water fish but our summers are brutal, so we go when we can catch fish.

Well the wind gusts were 15+mph, and the water's getting warmer. 79.5° when I got there, and 81° when I left. There were a half dozen Bassboats there today and they spotlocked on the deep humps. Between them and the wind I couldn't fish the deepwater spots so I had to stick to the blowdowns and the banks. Only one Largemouth dink in the north coves, and a 1lb Smallie off my tree cove. Went down to the 3rd Island and got a 1.5lb Largemouth, and missed another. Went back up to my tree cove and worked every angle. Got rewarded with the fish of the day, a 2.75lb Largemouth. Worked the rest of the Northwest shore back to the North coves. Got bit off by a big toothy critter in a Main lake cove along the way. He took line 3x before shredding the leader. That was the last action of the day, so I called it and came home.

Well done bro..... tough conditions require a determined angler, like you. Keep after them. That ten o'clock opening bites the big one. Lake Pogatapaug ( spelling .? ) in East Hampton had 8:00 opening for the two years I paid outrageous money to launch there. Then they moved it up to 9:00, and still closed and locked ya in @ 1/2 hour before sunset. I heard they would impound your car and trailer, if you stayed overnight locked in, and your boat if ya didn't get it out of the park right away, the next morning. How the heck could ya do that without a vehicle and trailer ? You could get it all back after paying impound fees, reimburse the town for the tow, pay the fine, and surrender your permit. All that to fish a lake loaded with ski boats, jet skis and a crummy launch.
Water authority @ Lake Chamberlain in Bethany was much better , but still pricey. You had your own key, which was good, but no launch, hours were 7:00 til sunset. Didn't lock ya in but if I remember the rules ( it's been 40+ years ), but they would close the barricades to the parking lot and strand ya there all night. Never happened to me, so I'm not sure. Was a great shore fishing lake though, with big calicoes and huge bull bluegills, that would hammer 4" rapalas. Decent largemouth place, with nice healthy yellow perch too.
Moved Over the Connecticut River, and that was that.

Thanks Maxx. MDC wasn't as expensive or restricted before Covid. Closing both beaches caused the fees for fishing to go up, to compensate the loss of income. They have less people working there so that's probably why they cut the hours. It's nice not having anyone speeding all around you thought.

Water 88 degrees, no wind, 104 air temp, feel good temp 118, fish ain’t happy about it either. Putting hooks in ice cube trays and offering ice as bait didn’t work.
