Any other right handed anglers exclusively use "left" handed baitcasting reels?

The fable is there was no left hand fly fishing reel when it all began, fly fishing. The reels were right hand only. The interchangeable reels came likely in the 60's, but not certain.

No. I changed all my baitcasters AND spincasters to left handed for the same reasons.

Actually, it is a better way. No changing hands after you cast etc, etc, etc. I do both because my wife buys me the right-hand wind. Not gonna say anything because I have several left-hand wind and I like to keep her happy. My son learn to cast right and reel left and can't do it the other way so I buy him lefty reels. The main thing is to be as proficient as you can while enjoying fishing.

I'm right handed also, until this question l hadn't noticed or paid much attention that I reel with my left hand, spinner and baitcast rigs. So no, your not alone! Tight lines!

With the old style fly reels which were basically a line holder, you could mount the reel backwards and reel with your left.

I have found the Shimano 201 Curado is the Sweetest LH Reel I have found to date. I have 4 and a few others.
I have always found it puzzling some use a LH Spinning Reel and RH Bait Cast Reel. What's with that....

I think that's the way it should be, I started in the 1970's when the "left hand" reels were expensive. I cast with my right and reel with left on casting and spinning reels.

you are not alone. I cannot hold bread in my left hand while I eat but I sure can crank with it. hint, when I cast righty, just before my lure hits the water I close my bail. my lure plops stealthily into the water with my left hand.

I am a righty with everything. Writing, shooting, guitar, right eye dominant, everything. That said, when I am using a baitcast reel I want a left hand retrieve and my right hand, my dominant hand, controlling the rod and the lure while my left does the reeling.

Am I alone on this?

I am ambidextrous. I write with my right hand but throw with my left. I am left eye dominant. I too play the guitar but right handed. I fish with my left hand and reel with my right. Guess I'm kind of a freak lol.

I fish a lot of tournaments and I handle the rod, spinning or casting, with my dominant right hand and Reel with my left.
This keeps me from having to switch the rod from my right to left hand and start reeling with my right hand. Believe it or not, it's that little bit of time over the day that could get you another 50 or 60 casts in.

I can work the rod with either hand equally as well but I strictly do it as a Time Saver.

After all at the end of the day don't most of us wish we had 50 or 60 more casts!?
