Seen it a couple times but its not my kind of show.
Try some cheap-cheap hotdogs, cut in half inch sections. Soak overnight in a ziplock with contents of a small package of strawberry jello mix. This is an inexpensive bait, not corrosive on hooks, stays on hooks, leftovers can last two weeks or more sealed up in fridge. Next best thing to cut shad.
I also catfish in Wi but I don’t use Trotlines. Perch are legal in WI and work great for catfish - live or as cutbait. They catch bigger fish than crawlers do. Here is the language from the WI fishing regulations “Illegal to use gamefish as bait unless they meet any length restriction for the water body you are fishing and are included in your daily bag limit for that species.” Since there isn’t a minimum length for perch on the Mississippi, you can use them. You just can’t use more than 25 a day since that is the daily bag limit. I don’t believe you can trap or net them though. I use a small hook and worms to catch the perch first
Welcome to the forum j3582.
Have heard of that but never tried yet.
Might have to check into that a little more. I know you can use them for Muskies in northern WI.
Hope I don’t gross anyone out, but I used to use my wife’s (now ex—can’t guess why) used tampons cut in about 1 inch pieces. Stayed on hook really good, oozed blood for hours.
