Anyone out there from Southern California? ππΌββοΈπ£
I live up by Sacramento now, but I lived in San Diego for about 25 years. I'm pretty familiar, but it's been over 20 years since I moved up here. Yeah, I'm an old fart.
yep. From OC. Just started fishing for spotties in the salt water harbors. Huntington Harbor, Alamitos Bay and Newport Harbor. Float tubing.
RH Welcome to the forum.

Nice! Ya, my buddy just bought a house at Dana Point. He tells me thereβs a ton of bay bass, sand bass, and calico bass around the jettyβs and in the harbor. Wer gonna give it a go in a couple weeks. Until then, Iβll be at Diamond Valley Lake next Wednesday πππΌββοΈπ£

So much water to fish in the bays. So many fish. Don't know why I never fell into this until recently. Always been an Eastern Sierra kinda guy. This is way better. 1/2 hr from home and always on fish. CNR.
I started with my fresh water bass stuff but have refined every time I go. The hottest thing (by local forums) is Hookup Baits (tube baits on lead heads). But I also throw swim baits, underspins, just about anything. I've seen guys using cut baits, too. I'm good with plastics.
Nice! Sounds like finesse bass gear would work just fine! Iβm good to go! ππΌββοΈπ£

Born in San Diego 75 years ago, fished lakes, and rivers when there were trout in them, I had a bass boat until 2003. When my friend who grew up in Point Loma took me out on south SD bay and we caught more fish than I ever caught in 6 hrs on the water. I went out Sat and caught 40 all Spotted Bay bass. My friend and his friend caught and released 116. 2 of us went out today and caught 86, Spotties, mackerel, Jack smelt 1 small Halibut. We've caught bonefish, bonito, Shortfin corvina, croaker. The largest halibut I got into the boat was 30" and had one up to the boat after he tried to swallow a 8" spottie but let go while I was trying to get my net. I don't eat anything out of the bay but love to catch and release. Best day in 8 years for 2 of us was 176 a lot of disks but some 16"s and 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lbs . Have hooked into some very large Bat Rays that took 1/2 hr pulling my 15' boat around. Even on weekends not much fishing pressure. Today only 1 other fisherman on the water 1/4 mile from us. Nothing great but a lot of fun. Better than staying home and doing yard work.
