Yes it was. Just one of many things that you get to see if you fish long enough. As a matter of fact, on the very same lake another time at the launch, there was a largemouth bass about 12 inches long floating near shore that tried to eat a bluegill but instead of swallowing it head first it grabbed it tail first and its spines were stuck in the bass's mouth. I removed the bluegill but can't remember if both survived or not.

Thanks for sharing your story, that's why I enjoy going fishing, because there's always something going on around you if you're paying attention when you're outdoors. 👍

I was fishing Dale Hollow once and saw a Big Smallmouth jumping and jumping. We fished out the cove and when we got back to the spot where the fish was it was laying on it's side on top. Thinking it may had a lure in it's mouth we went over and netted it. There was a blue gill as big as my hand stuck in it's mouth, what that fish was thinking trying to eat that big a fish beats me. I picked up a pair of wire snips and started cutting away at the blue gill's fins till I finally freed and got it out. The Smallmouth didn't look in very good shape so we put it in the live well for a whiled it finally came around, released it live and swimming.

That is a copperhead. (venomous) When I was living in TX I found one underneath the ramps for my lawnmower and I grabbed a shovel and chopped its head off.

WRONG ON BOTH COUNTS !

Yellow-bellied sea snakes are native to Hawaii,
but are not a danger to people.
Ireland is among the least treed countries
with only about 10% of forested land.

PLEASE RESEARCH BEFORE POSTING ERRONOUS DATA.

I appreciate that you rescued the snake from the Bullhead. I saw that same thing happen once but the snake got back into the lake before I could try to help.

Thank you. I have long since gained a respect for snakes. I am sorry for the ones I killed as a young kid but it seemed like everyone did it. Probably a very wide hatred against them because they creep a lot of people out.

Another snake story. Years ago 3 of us were fishing a large flood control lake in central Pa. named Raystown. There are a fair amount of black rat snakes in the area. They are a large snake. Not exactly the cute and cuddly kind. As we were fishing near shore below a steep mountain one came straight for the boat. We could not believe how bold it was as it came for a closer look and seemed as if it wanted get in the boat with us. I had to push it away with the tip of my fishing rod! To this day I still can't figure out why.

Can someone identify this snake?
I tried to catch some catfish but had no luck.

The only thing of interest was this guy swimming by.

Very interesting, I believe I've seen one of those but the one I seen was much smaller.
I love seeing these guys in the spring. It's when I don't see them I know something is wrong with the water quality.

Fish on a pole, I have no idea. In the earlier post of a snake swimming, I though it looked awfully like a copperhead, but I suppose there are others that are similiar. Just Sayin...RJS

Never kill any snakes, they were put on this earth for a reason, not like the skeets. All they do is transfer diseases.
