Carp are an invasive species. If caught they cannot be returned to water. Dispose of properly in trash.

Not the same here. Common carp are game fish. Grass carp are protected and must be released unharmed. Illegal to waste any game. Fish, fowl, or critter. Eat 'em in season of let them be. We just spoke of Lake Naceimiento, San Luis Obispo County Ca. The only water in the state where you can legally release white bass. Everywhere else they must be immediately killed. Not my words. After watching several you tube demos, I am not sure it is worth the effort to clean them. One needs to be an athlete for some methods, or have a half hour to clean each fish. And then only get about half of the meat. I would still like to try one for my own satisfaction. The two things I learned that made sense, if the flavor turns out to good are 1. Use a standard dinner fork to scale the cutting areas before you cut. 2. Forget about the Y bones. Just grind the fish up and make patties or fish cakes.

The fish patties are yummy. We came across a recipe that mimics canned salmon....
Using the filets, dice down to 1 inch cubes. For each pint (a pint is a pound the world around!) Add 1 packet of catsup from any greasy spoon. Pressure cook for 1.5 hrs ( softens dem bones)
One medium carp about 5 pints. We would get 3-5 fish per canning session. Never could tell it carp!!

With a goal like that, I'd like to see bluegill two feet long and with stamina to keep their explosive fight going for awhile. There's a project that the genetic engineers could tackle!

Hey Barnacles. It's been done already!!! Just read a story about a young girl and her father in a southern state that have been breeding giant bluegills in a 5 acre pond. Not two foot long, but the gills are 3 plus pounds!!! It started a big argument about whether it would be fair if they entered it to set a new record. Google Sarah Parvin.
