I hear carp are bony. I have never caught a carp out of cold water. I will Be fishing in Banks lake next month and may get a chance to try eating one.
Question: does a carp have the same Y bone structure of a pike? If so has anyone tried the five filet method of cleaning that works so well on pike? P.S. I am putting more faith in my bow than my fish hooks.

Never eaten one filleyed, they were always cooked whole. Flesh is pretty soft so I don’t know if it’ll stay together.

why go for carp bank lakes has a lot of walleye which are one of the best eating fish why settle for one of the worse? I have to admit carp fight better than walleye but if you want something to eat go for the walleye

I am going for bass, walleye and a try at lake white fish. I will also be spending the prior week at Roosevelt/Spokane. Taking a carp (likely with my bow), as they are not available on this side of the mountain, will give me a chance to find out for myself the answer to so many questions I hear, with so many answers. I have no idea how many times I have heard carp are not eatable and come to find out the person who told me has never eaten one. I have only eaten carp out of warm water. And that was before I knew the dark meat is the problem in most poor tasting fish. I am always interested in learning.

"You Tube" have several videos on filleting carp and preparing for the plate. I grew up eating carp and never did have any complaints. A plate of fried carp fillets, with hush puppies, and cole slaw is an excellent meal.

The way to eat carp is to deep fry it so the bones are crunchy.

Or you could try my grandpa's recipe, but you gotta have a outhouse.
Take your carp and stuff the belly with onions and any fresh herbs you like. Sew up the belly
and nail your carp to a good sized hickory board. Take it to the outhouse and let it hang there
for about 5 days or so. Put board and all into a hot oven and bake it for about 3 hours. Take it
out of the oven and allow it to cool. Throw away the carp and eat the board.

After watching several you tube demos, I am not sure it is worth the effort to clean them. One needs to be an athlete for some methods, or have a half hour to clean each fish. And then only get about half of the meat. I would still like to try one for my own satisfaction. The two things I learned that made sense, if the flavor turns out to good are 1. Use a standard dinner fork to scale the cutting areas before you cut. 2. Forget about the Y bones. Just grind the fish up and make patties or fish cakes.

I would be all over that, but I have only so much room to bring home fish. There is no way I am going to take up room with an experimental carp filet in place of walleye, perch, kokanee or trout filets. Life is tough, but sometimes you just have to make the hard decisions. Just so you know, Roosevelt triploids are like pink salmon in size. Their red orange meat smokes awesome. I will try to remember to post a filet photo if the wind lets us get out on the water. The Columbia is calm or it is a wind storm 25+. Not much in-between

Spirit, Your definition and my definition of OUTHOUSE must be way different. I aint eating any thing that's been hanging in an outhouse. Especially for 5 days.

Seriously about the deep frying. I saw an episode of Good Eats and Alton Brown was on the road on his motorcycle. He stopped in at the place and the guy was serving carp and people were coming from all over to eat what he was selling. He battered it and deep fried it. Looked pretty tasty.

I don't eat carp. And wouldn't. Knowingly.

Oh who am I kidding? If someone prepared it for me, I'd try it. That's just how I am. I like to eat and there's not much I don't like.
